Wait wait. You can get me cheap parts? HOW YOU DOIN'?
Guys lay of the guy - he's cool.
I get parts at 10% over what the dealership buys it for. Retail is closer to 40%

I could see a manual linear taking a FRS/BRZ auto from a dig up to say about 80 or so.... not a doubt in my mind. Much past 80, I would see the Linear getting passed and as the speed increased, the linear being further and further behind. I don't see why anyone would doubt this scenario.
I could also see the Linear with an advantage up to about 60 or so from a 5 mph roll.

Here we go... a 2.5 RS:

0-30 2.5
0-60 7.8
1/4 16.1 at 85
5-60 8.3
0-100 24.4
FRS Auto

0-60 8.1
1/4 16.3 at 90
5-60 8.2
0-100 21.4
So, assume the Linear is about 100 lbs heavier than a RS.... it would only be about 1/10th slower (though the Linear in this story may be as light if not a little lighter than a RS). There is no reason the RS/Linear couldn't win in the 1/4th mile or from a 5 mph roll up to 50 or 60 or so. Even if a car is quicker to 60 by a small margin than another car, it doesn't mean that it is ahead at 60. Think about that one.
Think of it this way.... the auto FRS hits 90 at about the time that the RS hits 86 mph. So, while the auto FRS is quicker to 90, it is still "behind" the RS at 90. It wouldn't catch the RS until closer to 95 where it would blow by it.
Interesting though the RS and the auto FRS have the same pathetic drag limited top speed! In theory the FRS should be faster (more power to the wheels and more aerodynamic... less frontal area too). My guess would be that the gearing sucks and that it just shifts out of 4th at say like 120 or so and it is reving too low in 5th gear to pull any faster. 6th gear no doubt is a pure "overdrive". The RS is probably right around its peak power in 5th gear.... though I could be wrong. In the end, even with this theory I am shocked that the FRS wasn't good for 130-135 or so.... strange.

The linear is WAY faster when it's doing 90 than when the FRS is doing 70. I know because I once passed an frs in a passing lane. FACT.

see we are starting to get some good evidence here

I drove an FR-S this afternoon. I went for the manual transmission one, although I had my choice.
Road feel, steering precision, cornering were all very good. Torque was absent. I was reluctant to really cane it with Stephanie (salesperson) in the passenger seat but I think that's what it'd take. I'd have flogged it harder if I thought there was a better chance I'd get one, just to be sure it would suit me. I could tell that it wouldn't though.
I'm sure I could get some pretty good lap times out of it, but as a daily driver, it'd be frustrating. My current car is not without issues (almost entirely from being FWD) but I wouldn't give it up for the FR-S.
