Everybody staying dry?

Especially you, Elliott, some real  eek images coming out of the Boulder Creek area.

Up here in gunbarrel, the water is staying under control, but the 6+' ravine behind our house is full to the brim and rushing like class 5 rapids.  Fortunately, it's still several feet below us.

Re: Everybody staying dry?

I'm still fine. Nothing too exciting to report. Last some of the roads got pretty crazy, but still passable. We lost power at about 9pm but it was back on when I woke up this morning.

Wellman creek is behind my complex, and it's obviously way higher than usual. I'd say it has another foot to go before it touches the footbridge. I went out last night with a few friends when the power went out and looked at Boulder Creek at Scott Carpenter Park. It was pretty insane. There were huge standing waves set up...really fast moving. The water was about 5 feet below the top of the footpath tunnel crossing under 30th, so probably 5-6 feet deep in the tunnel.

I'm actually on campus now. We still don't have internet at my house and I have a lot of stuff to get done. The drive up here was totally uneventful. Last night the intersection of 30th and Colorado was about 5 inches of fast moving water. It's not flooded at all anymore. They're still saying that we're expecting a lot more water, though, so who knows if it's really winding down yet or not.

Re: Everybody staying dry?

Glad to hear it.  I'm staying put; obviously my lecture today was cancelled, and NIST was closed today as well.  Sounds like lots of closed roads and flood damage.  The stream behind us is staying put, though.

Re: Everybody staying dry?

Heard there are some closures in / near my 'hood (Park Hill) but so far so good. Unfortunately, the crowned street in front of my house has poor drainage on my side- during heavy rains, I can barely clear the mini-river which forms. This was far beyond heavy rains, so I got wet trying to get to my car.  sad

Stay dry, stay safe!

Re: Everybody staying dry?

Here in Albuquerque we're getting more rain than I've seen in years! It's amazing and much needed for our drought, but it's really killin it for tinkering with the new Saab!

Oh boy...flooding is picking back up again. The stream behind my house has swelled even more. It looks like there's not much further to go before it really spreads out over the banks.

Re: Everybody staying dry?

I'm still hoping I won't need to. I've got a bag packed though just in case the flash flood sirens go off again. Luckily I have a friend who says he's quite a bit higher/drier about a 10 minute walk away, so worst case scenario, I end up there tonight.

As of right now though, we've still got power and if you didn't look outside it'd feel like a normal rainy evening. Fingers crossed.

Re: Everybody staying dry?

I have been keeping an eye on it too. Our renters called us, apparently our house has a leak and water is dripping in. Oh well, could be worse, just sucks because we live so far away and have to coordinate repairs remotely. I hoped for rain all summer during the wildfires... I guess you can have too much of a good thing.

Same here.....the rain picked up and the ravine is getting close to its banks.  It still has a way to go to get to us, but this isn't good at all.

Did they close it at the creek path, by Marine?

I'm not sure. I assume it's closed from Foothills up to Folsom, but that's just a guess. My roommate had his car on East Campus (where he works) and tried to drive home around 6pm but was stopped before he could get out of the lot by police who were closing the road. He ended up walking home and came in the door absolutely soaking wet. It was pretty funny, actually, circumstances aside. His car is still in one of the East Campus parking lots for now. Apparently the water was over a foot deep at one point when he was wading up the road, so he figured it was probably for the best that they didn't let him try to drive on it anyway.

It might not still be closed at this point. I haven't ventured out to check for a while. The rain has let up for now so maybe the water has dropped over there.

Re: Everybody staying dry?

Water leak is looking much worse than originally anticipated.  We had an issue like this last summer (our house was newly built as of Feb 2012) so I have been on the phone / email all morning with our renters, our builder, our HOA and our insurance.  What a headache.  Could be worse though, I feel for others that have suffered far more.

Re: Everybody staying dry?

Yeah, we're among the fortunate as well.  Our sump pump started running last night, and has been cycling furiously since, but managing to keep up.  Thank god its working, that's going on our regular maintenance list in the future.

Re: Everybody staying dry?

All clear here, too. Man, there are some people who really got hit with this. Some friends of mine who live in a basement apartment got flooded pretty bad. The water was splashing up on the lawn of the house. Not good.
