is he counting every oil change?
seriously.
"250,000 spent in this car since new"
...drive thru meals. oil changes. timing chains. respraying hennerot. front seat covers. all these things add up
this is akin to the "I got my best guy on it" mechanic line.
Look in the garage, the guy is leaning on your fucking car. He's on it alright.
And that's another thing. love the no front seat pictures. Sheep's wool seat covers. 40k

I'm just wondering how it's possible to spend $250k on that car. You'd have to total it 5 times and rebuild the engine each time. Either that or you really like air fresheners. I suppose if you purchased a new air freshener every hour at the cost of $1 each, you'd come up with $227,760. But that still leaves ~20k unaccounted for. Perhaps that was the money spent on real maintenance?
I get the feeling I'm not going to get a reply...

Not car-related, but I've got a good CL asshat story to share...
I had to pull the majority of the 12' x 16' deck off of my house to excavate a broken sewer line connecting my septic tank to the house. The iron pipe simply broke due to frost heaving and corrosion. Anyways, many of the fasteners were stuck in place and I used a Sawzall to cut off many of the deck boards as well as the railings. This left a bunch of unattractive blade marks in the wood on the 'good side' of the decking that I had intended to re-use when I re-built the deck. There were 20+ 16' boards, and a few that had been cut down to 10' or so. I would be re-using the support structure under the decking.
I figured that someone out there might want some used, but still usable pressure treated decking, so I placed a CL ad in the 'materials' section. $3 a board, cheaper if you bought everything, $50 for all. FWIW, the new decking I bought in the same dimension (5/4" x 2 x 16') is about $12 a board. Boy, did I underestimate the market for used, 18 year old decking materials.
CL user #1 who contacted me wanted all of it. Perfect. However, I placed the ad on Sunday, and he would not be able to pick it up until Thursday, and he was coming from an hour and a half away. He also told me that he could not transport 16' boards, so he would be cutting it into more manageable lengths in my yard. Why someone wanted to drive a 200 mile round trip for $50 of used lumber is beyond me, but whatever. I wanted the lumber gone sooner rather than later (as it was killing my lawn), but told the guy he was good to come on Thursday but he needed to clean up any mess he made.
I always leave CL ads active until the item is sold or gone. Over the course of the next two days, I got no fewer than 10 e-mails from other people who could be there that night to get the lumber, many of whom were in my same town. I started lining everyone up in order of who contacted me. CL user #2 was ready to come and get it the moment #1 backed out, and 5 minutes from me.
As I was motivated to get the lumber gone, I tried e-mailing #1 about a half dozen times to see if he was still coming or not. I even called the phone # he gave me three or four times to see if he was still coming and left messages. Nothing. I all but told CL user #2 that the stuff was his and arranged to have him pick it up Wednesday evening.
Well, guess what? #1 decides that it would be OK to call my 8-month pregnant wife (I was at work) informing her that he was already half way to my house on Wednesday morning. While he came, cut up all of the wood on a tarp, and left no trace of his ever being there, WTF?!? We arranged to meet on Thursday, you randomly show up a day early?? Without an attempt to contact me first? Not cool.
He then found my e-mails to him on Tuesday, attempting to confirm if he was still coming or not, and my final e-mail to him saying that if he doesn't write or call me back that I am going to give it to the next person in line. He gets all bent out of shape about it and claiming that CL is all about the first e-mail, etc. etc.
To me, CL is all about the first person to show up and take something. If money is involved, the person who gets the item is the first one to put money in your hands.
The worst are free items - that is where the real flakes of CL come out of the woodwork.

Also, which kind of air fresheners were used? I am allergic to ingredients in the "new car smell" ones from Yankee Candle. Please let me know if this is a cause for concern.
Thanks,

P.S. Yankee Candle does make the best ones, even if I'm allergic to them. "Spooged Tube Sock" is my favorite scent.

Though I don't deal with it much, I've only ever had good experiences on Craigslist. I guess I'm just lucky.

me too.
I had an accidental no show once, but it was quickly rectified by the potential buyer calling and explaining they were late.

Did you at least get the money?

My wife collected the money from him after he dickered with her down to $45. Worth mentioning that he had already cut everything up and loaded it in his truck.
She had no cash on her, so at least seventy cents of the change she gave to him was in pennies.
CL karma at work.

I had a stroller my kids no longer used I decided to give away for free on CL, figuring I'd give it to a person who needed it most. So my description read something like: 'Stroller in excellent shape, free to a needy family who can't afford to buy a new one'. Of course I got a shitload of responses, and they all read something like this:
Hi, my name is Maria, I can really use this stroller, my family is very poor. Please call me at 555-555-5555
Sent from my iPhone
At that time I still had a flip phone because the wife and I wanted to avoid paying extra $60 a month on a data plan, and here's this 'poor' bitch sending me a message begging me for the stroller from her iPhone. Needless to say I got a lot of messages like this, and I ignored all of them. In the end I donated the stroller to Salvation Army.
