I had never considered it...is that a thing? No issue with paint damage/rust? I see a lot of Legacy Outbacks rolling around with rust-through in that area, or a riveted patch...

In my experience, those rubber liners are the cause of rear fender cancer.  Honda uses them, if that tells you anything.  I pulled mine off long ago.  checkmark

Hmmm, that makes sense. I always liked the look of them but maybe Ill pull mine off now.

Mine have been gone since 50k or so. Those stupid things rotted the rear fenders like nobody's business on my 1990 CRX.

They are there to protect the fender edge from stone chips. They do this job admirably - but they also trap dirt and salt against the metal.

Wait until you see how much garbage falls out of the fender when you pull them off...

Interesting. Maybe I will pull them off and replace them with a strip of Xpel or something. That way my paint is still protected and nothing will get under there.

arrow-up No real need to add anything in their place.  The paint is pretty thick, and doesn't seem to chip very easily.  The only cars I've ever had with fender rust issues have had some sort of rubber or plastic strip along the edge.

Bullshit it is.   lol

Throw on some clearbra cut to fit if you're worried, OP.  Shouldn't show if you're able to get a good cut on it.

Beautiful ride.
I'm wondering does the STi axleback fit directly to the stock pipe? and did you have to drill new hole for the front flaps?

Re: Look at my red rocket.

I actually have the STi midpipe on there as well, but as far as I know they all are interchangeable and bolt up directly in whatever combination you can think of.

You do have to drill a hole through some plastic to get to an existing hole in the body of the car for mounting the RA flaps. I also drilled a new hole in the mudflap itself to meet an existing hole on the car. I didn't think it was too tough, and haven't had any issues. I've had them on for 5 or 6 months now.

Re: Look at my red rocket.

Finally got my snow tire setup on today. I plan on skiing tomorrow, so I figured I might as well.

A more updated image of the car with the 35% (legal CO) tint:

And now with the snow tires on:

I like the '06 WRX wheel look on there. The darker silver is nice. The 16" size makes my brakes look bigger too. Heh.

Re: Look at my red rocket.

Yeah I really like those darker WRX OEMs with the Red, looks really really good.  up up

However, despite their functionality, I hate roof rails.  They are tolerable on a WRX Wagon, but ruin a good 9-2x for me.

Re: Look at my red rocket.

I finally got my Christmas present on the car; a 22mm Perrin rear sway bar. I also did Kartboy front and rear endlinks at the same time. When I bought the car, it had a Whiteline front sway bar, but was still on stock endlinks.

http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj600/dotmaster206/IMG_0260_zpsc1d41217.jpg

http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj600/dotmaster206/IMG_0261_zps088bcded.jpg

The rear installation was a bit of a pain, but not too bad. The hardest part was getting the right side StoutMount on. It's pretty tight quarters over there.

The front endlinks, however, were a HUGE pain in the ass. I got the bolts off of the control arms with no trouble at all. They looked pretty good. I don't have much rust at all under the car. The bolts on the swaybar, however, were a nightmare. After soaking them with lots of liquid wrench, I was able to crack the nuts and get them off by basically standing on my breaker bar. The bolts themselves, however, remained.

http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj600/dotmaster206/IMG_0264_zps133f7143.jpg

They had fused to the bushing inside of the stock endlinks. I spent a lot of time trying to get them out, but finally broke down and rented this from the HomeDepot.

http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj600/dotmaster206/IMG_0265_zps8ede75cf.jpg

I really wish I had done that sooner.

I managed to get through the right side bolt, and half of the left on one metal-cutting blade. I only had one blade, so I ended up snapping it off with the breaker bar. Those grade 8 bolts are tough!

http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj600/dotmaster206/IMG_0267_zps09ea9d89.jpg

So, now it's all on. After all of that trouble, I was really happy to feel the results of my painful labor. The car corners significantly flatter and feels sharper on turn-in. I have no squeaks, rattles, clunks, etc. (knock on wood). It was a long day, but I'd say it was worth it.

Re: Look at my red rocket.

I've only tried to unbolt a stabilizer link once. Now, my preferred method is my Makita angle grinder and a 40 grit sanding wheel. If I don't have the link off in 15 minutes, I'm having a bad day.

Re: Look at my red rocket.

Nice car, unicorn envy, I like! What's going on where the the exhaust hanger mounts?  The spare tire pocket looks like the car was rear ended or something. I agree with you on keeping the car functional but you could get some 04-07 sti take off springs, keep it tall but stiffen it up a touch to complement the new sway bars and end links. Speaking of sway bars, I could use the stockers you just took off, maybe just the front. Let me know if you want to part with the stuff, thanks and congrats man.

It's a Proclip Ipod mount: http://www.proclipusa.com/default.aspx

I'm not sure what you mean about the exhaust hanger mounts. They're right where they should be. It might just be a weird angle of the picture that's making them look off. There's no damage there.

I've considered putting on some STi springs, but for now, it's not worth the expense/work to me. I'm pretty happy with the ride as-is for now. Maybe someday...

I actually only have the original rear sway bar. The front had already been upgraded when I bought the car. The original owner was replacing the front struts and decided to get an upgraded swaybar while he was at it, apparently. I just put on the endlinks for the front.

If you're interested in the rear though, feel free to make an offer. Shipping might be pretty $$ to NY from CO, though.  embeer

Re: Look at my red rocket.

I'm looking at pictures on my phone, and I'm old, my eyes aren't what they used to be. I actually have a sedan rear sway bar off a wrx, should work on the wag, I would like to get my hands on a stock wrx wagon front sway bar, a sedan front I'm told will not work. I do have a sedan front, I should try it, see if in fact won't work. Thank you, enjoy your new toys.

Re: Look at my red rocket.

I think that the sloppy factory undercoat makes it appear that the spare tire well is dented near the exhaust. I thought the same thing, but on second glance, it's fine.

I spent most of memorial day weekend adding more black to my car. I'm very happy with the results.
