Re: 9-2x The Gun Thread

What are everyone's thought on the new Gun Control bills beingsubmitted.  If there is another Assault Weapons Ban, what would it mean.  I guess my AR's are going to gain in value.

We still have an assault weapons ban in California.  I haven't looked at the bills being submitted, but I expect that Congress will move towards California's laws, and California will go even further.  Good?  Bad?  I'm not calling that, just putting in my predictions.

I'm willing to give up my guns when the militarily, government, and police do but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Seeing that article is in the Guardian, a mainstream newspaper, I would say the MSM has picked up on the story.

I should have clarified; this wasn't picked up by our corporate/banker owned media in the United States.

As an aside, why so crabby?  It's the holidays, where is your holiday cheer?

Re: 9-2x The Gun Thread

My local newspaper (real paper, delivered daily - yes, I'm old-fashioned) has had a number of articles on the surge in gun sales, and relates it to various events.  It was on the front page this morning, in fact.  That's pretty MS for M.

In general, anything that brings up the subject of gun control leads to increased sales.  I might have even seen it covered on something I saw on PBS, but can't remember with certainty.

I'm an ignostic, I don't celebrate the holidays.  And I'm sick and tired of hyperbole and ridiculous statements about gun control in this country.

Neat gun, but it's just a dangerous toy that doesn't really serve a purpose (other than being a toy).  Agree/disagree?

I have hunters in the family. They go out and kill big animals but only kill what they can eat/use. Little waste as possible. It's nice because I can have elk chili or occasional venison. Maybe an elk-hide rug for my new place. And, that's the same way I am with fishing. IMHO that is pretty legit. That's my personal take on guns, and I can see how you could get into certain rifles for sport, ie. target shooting, clay shooting. But my take is based on guns as sport, not guns as identity or for self-defense.

I can not personally fathom the public sale or need for armor piercing bullets, full or semi-automatic weapons, or enormous magazines. There's no reason for it.

The only reason is if you're the kind of person who says "I'll do what I want, dont tell me what I can or can not have" ... and that's hard for me to understand, because I am not personally that kind of guy.  hmm

---

It was sad as fuck to see gun sales spike right after this massacre. What we have is a culture problem which stems from about 1,000,000 different reasons. We'll have another mass shooting next week, or the week after. Soon we will all be oblivious to it. We already are.

My partner's 67 year old father is an avid sportsman.  We (and they) have a freezer full of venison, goose, pheasant, and turkey - I don't eat it but my partner does.  Visiting their home, the basement is full of trophy antlers, and a couple decorative cases with great-grandfather's shotguns.  He's often out helping a buddy who owns a processing facility, making sausage, jerky, processing venison, etc.  Nothing goes to waste if they can help it.  Guns in their (rural) home are not locked in a safe...both daughters knew either to stay away (older), or how to safely handle, clean, load, and fire (my partner) any of the guns in the home.  You'd assume a few things, looking at the surface.  One, that he's a NRA member, 2, that he's an advocate for firearms ownership, and 3, that he's got lots of guns.

None are true.  He's a straight-ticket Democrat voter, thinks the NRA is doing more damage to gun rights and ownership and only serves the big manufacturers, that not everyone should have a gun and they need to be kept out of schools and public buildings (he's opposed to CCW), and they have 3 guns.  A rifle, a shotgun, and a handgun.  He's got 2 bows and a *gasp* crossbow.  Probably a hundred or so rounds of ammo in the house, total.  From what I can tell, he's indicative of 90% of the gun owners in our state.

Ask him about home invasion, he'll laugh in your face.  "Who the heck's gonna come all the way back here n' decide to rob this place?"  They live at the edge of town.  "If they want our stuff that bad, geez, they can take it - no sense shootin' someone over just things."  Ask about the government taking guns: "Well, they've been tellin' me for 40 years that the government was gonna take all my guns.  I still got my guns, no one's had theirs taken away, I think its a buncha baloney to make people buy more stuff."  Ask about "assault" rifles, semi-auto shotguns, etc.:  "Don't know why anyone needs one of them.  Can't hunt with 'em worth a damn, and if you need more than a couple shots, you need to go back and learn how to shoot."  Ask about CCW:  "Aw geez, that again?  Why do we want folks runnin' around thinking they're the cops?  That crap's for the movies."  The language is definitely more colorful after he's been hanging out with his buddies - but the sentiment is the same.

Gotta say, I agree with him.  The only reason someone in this day and age has a mag-fed anything is because they feel insecure about something.  Maybe they should address that instead of buying more guns/ammo.

Like people who don't know the truth about declining crime statistics, and get all upset and go buy more guns to protect themselves from fewer criminals?

For the love of precious metal?  What other types of metal do you love?  Do you love them before they're shaped into guns as your comment would lead one to believe, or do you just love with them because they're fun to play with?
