Moving to Texas in August

I am moving to the Austin area to be closer to Dell HQ, where I work. I spent about two months there last year commuting back and forth from Chicago. I've seen a red, spotless 92x Aero in the RR7 lot on many occasions...

I am concerned about emissions and tint inspections. I have no cats in my Aero. Is it an OBDII inspection or a sniffer? Will I fail? I've never failed and OBDII in Chicago.... Also I read that they test window tint for 25% on the front doors. It fails below that. That kind of stuns me considering how many cars I see with at least 90% tint on the roads. I am of course at 20%...

Any insight here will help me. The Inspections page of the State of Texas was pretty much unhelpful. . .

Thanks! driving driving

Re: Moving to Texas in August

I have a friend at Dell, lives in Round Rock....the lady and I may move there next year. Can't help you with the inspection stuff as he's not much of a car guy but I'll be keeping an eye on your experience. You'd think with the hot sun they would be laid back about tint. A friend lives in Dallas and the knob on his radio melted from the heat.

Late reply,

How you liking austin so far? I've been here for a long time but keep thinking about doing the reverse and maybe move to chicago or PNW.

Fwiw, if you haven't already been inspected, the state uses a OBDII.  It's more a pita to get your title and tags than to get the inspection.  Just be sure you're going to a legit inspection station as yrmv

Obviously you're already here, but if you take the drive out to a small town, many little bitty shops just check lights and you're good to go.

Just a cam and a tune.
