Re: Welcome Discount Tire!

Why couldn't we keep our previous tire sponsor?  At least they didn't charge me to fix their mistakes like this one does.

Re: Welcome Discount Tire!

I had a pretty good experience with them buying my Michelin Pilot Super Sports. THe matched Tirerack's price and gave me a discount on top of that.

Re: Welcome Discount Tire!

Do we get discounted pricing?  Seriously, who gives a shit about site sponsors if they don't offer the community any discounts and/or group buys?  The other two "sponsors" appear to have done dick to help the site or 9-2x community.

Re: Welcome Discount Tire!

Eh, it's fine.  Let 'em post here.  Doesn't cost us anything.

Plus, I hadn't ever gone to Discount Tire's site before this thread was made.  If all they want to do is provide a link, that's fine.  If they want to garner more sales and offer a site discount, even better.  If not, I don't see what the problem is.

I'll chime in with a +1 on that.  even though I have to go 60 miles to get to one.

I don't have a problem with it.  I just don't understand why these yahoos need their own sub-forums when they aren't offering anything to the community, or why Bob gets so giddy when he scores a new site sponsor...

EDIT: I forgot about that tirerack deal...  shifty

Here's what happened with Discount Tire:

Took car in for 4 new tires, purchased from Discount Tire.  Tires were directional, but somehow they managed to mount 3 in 1 direction and 1 in the other.  They then put the 1 mounted in the other direction on the wrong side of the car.  When I pointed this out to them they went and changed the 1 mounted different around, so now 2 tires were rotating in the correct direction and 2 weren't.  When I pointed this out to them the manager got all pissed off at me and had them change 2 tires around so they were all rotating correctly.  When I got the bill they charged me for 7 tire dismounts/mounts/balance (it was suppose to be included) and $125 to remove the wheel locks because I didn't give them the key.  Well the invoice said right on it that the wheel lock key was on the key chain, and when the manager handed me the keys it was still there, so he dropped that charge (but I no longer had wheel locks), and he agreed to drop 4 of the charges for dismounts/mounts/balance.  I just wanted to get out of there so I paid the $75.  I shouldn't have paid it but I was getting tired of the verbal abuse from the store manager for wanting the tires mounted correctly.

Less than a week later one of the tires developed a sidewall bubble.  Discount Tire saw nothing wrong with it, but my favorite Goodyear store couldn't believe that a tire with bubble over 2/3s of the sidewall didn't burst.  They did the warranty work even though they didn't carry this brand tire.  The local rep for the tire authorized them to replace the tire with the bubble. When they removed the tire they found someone had sliced the interior of the tire with a razor, which prompted them to pull the other 3 tires. They found one other tire that had an interior razor cut, and a third tire had some of the rubber over the steel bead damaged due to too little lube used, so they replace those tires as well.

I'll never use Discount Tire again, even if they are the last tire retailer in the world.

I've only bought tires shipped on occasion from them, shipped prices often (currently, not in the past) undercuts TireRack, but overall I still trust the Rack more.

Re: Welcome Discount Tire!

Posting on an old thread here, but i buy from discount tire direct from ebay and have bought probably 12 sets of tires from them, then have a local mom n pops tire shop mount them.  I have had zero issues.  They have great rebates and the last 6 sets of tires and 2 sets of rims i bought a few months ago, they all had rebates, and ebay bucks was at like 10% so when it came down to it, it was an unreal deal.   The issue above about the razor slice in the tire is a nightmare, there would be zero excuse for something like that, that could kill someone.   If it was me i would never set foot in that store and blast them online ever chance i got...........but just saying from my experience with buying tires outright shipped from ebay, i couldn't be happier, i have even resold a couple sets that i didnt end up needing on craigslist and made a few bucks.
