The 2016 Presidential race

Can we get a loose discussion going here?

I just like to know the candidates before they officially announce they are running and the media hypes them up/tears them down so much.

Here's what I know, please add to it:

Sarah Palin- no summary needed

Mike Huckabee- religious dude from Arkansas. Fox News show.

Mitt Romney- mormon, only GOP'r not employed by Fox News. Massachusetts

Newt Gingrich- former speaker of the house, is in the spotlight lately for flip flopping

Tim Pawlenty- little known former Minnesota gov

Ron Paul- Texas congressman

Re: The 2016 Presidential race

Ron Paul.

He seems to be one of the few Congressman that understands we can't let the Fed/Treasury/Goldman/Wall Street dictate our fiscal policy, and that we can't afford to be at war.

And if you disagree with me, may I suggest moar education?

Isn't Ron Paul kind of a fucking nut though?

I don't really know much about him.

Re: The 2016 Presidential race

Ron Paul would be awesome, but it will never happen.  I had a Ron Paul sign in my yard last election just for fun.
I think Huckabee has a strong chance.  I'm not a fan myself, but I wasn't a fan of McCain either.

Re: The 2016 Presidential race

My vote is for Palin.  I want her to go all the way then Obama's reelection will be assured.  I think even the dumbest American can see that she is unfit in the mind in so many levels to lead the country.

Re: The 2016 Presidential race

Ron Paul's Political Positions

And how about this from Newt:

Newt Gingrich on March 7 wrote:

Exercise a no-fly zone this evening, communicate to the Libyan military that Gadhafi was gone and that the sooner they switch sides, the more like they were to survive, provided help to the rebels to replace him. I mean, the idea that we're confused about a man who has been an anti-American dictator since 1969 just tells you how inept this administration is.

(Greta Van Susteren's extended interview with Newt Gingrich)

Newt Gingrich statement to Politico on March 20 wrote:

It is impossible to make sense of the standard for intervention in Libya except opportunism and news media publicity

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/03 … z1HR7k2F4a

Newt Gingrich on March 23 wrote:

Let me draw the distinction. I would not have intervened. I think there were a lot of other ways to affect Qaddafi. I think there are a lot of other allies in the region we could have worked with. I would not have used American and European forces.

Read his books:

The Revolution: A Manifesto

Liberty Defined: 50 Essential Issues That Affect Our Freedom

A Foreign Policy of Freedom: Peace, Commerce, and Honest Friendship

FULL DISCLOSURE:  I'm biased ... I was a foreign policy advisor for Ron Paul's 2008 presidential campaign and I wrote this about him prior to being asked to be an advisor.

That said, unfortunately, the likelihood of Ron Paul getting the Republican nomination is somewhere between slim and none ... and slim just took the last train out of Albuquerque.  The GOP has no interest whatsoever in letting Ron Paul get nominated ... largely because of his views on foreign policy, which resonate with a lot of Americans but not with the American political elite and with the big political donors.  And, also unfortunately, Ron Paul won't run as anything but a Republican.  While I think he represents what a Republican should be, he isn't what the Republican Party currently is.  And IMHO if you bother to dig deep enough (and it doesn't have to be very deep) and do any real thinking and analysis, there really isn't a whole lot of difference between Republicans and Democrats ... it's mostly just differences in style, not real substance.
