Moving soon into a wildcard neighborhood. Not so bad, not so great. I'm Probably going to purchase a Remington 870 Tactical + taclight and neoprene shell sleeve. I know there isn't much to discuss but if there is anything at all please feel free to mention it. I figure on loading it with .00 or .000 -- you tell me about ammunition options and what you like please.
I also thought it would be neat to get a few signs that just sport a picture of a tactical shotgun and place them in the windows. Not 100% on that yet, but I thought it might get the point across.

Post a picture of a criminal getting hung by his ball sack off of your roof. That should get the point across

Putting signs up indicating that there are firearms located within is a good way to get yourself robbed when you're not home.
Pick up some Federal LE127 or LE132 and see how it groups.
I'd be surprised if it doesn't group well. If it does and your gun likes it, use it.
Feel free to put signs in your neighbors yards that say gun-free household, though

I will try those shells, thanks. I like the idea of the LE132 reduced recoil.
Good point, Kap. Alarm system signs would be more appropriate, I guess. As well as an actual alarm system of course.

The Low-recoil is really, really good stuff.
It still performs fantastically in human tissue and yields the required 12" of penetration in properly calibrated gel.
The flight control wad is really great, too. Keeps nice tight groups, and makes for one bad day for a badguy.
The Hornady TAP uses the same FC wad under license, I think.

IIRC some come with a mini-survival kit thing. Starting planning for Alaska on a motorcycle and can't bring the pistol into Canada.

I own an 870 Tactical with the pistol grip stock.
While a good shotgun I would say you should try to find an 870 Police.
The differences really come down to fit, finish & components.
Ill explain after work.

Ok, now that Im not just surfing the web while stuck in traffic.....
Old pic but it looks the same.
here is the cliff notes story
Buddies step dad buys gun for HD, 1st trip to range the fore-end is contacting the receiver and taking off the finish. Gun sent to Remington and is returned with refinished receiver and sanded area on fore-end to eliminate contact. 2nd trip to range it is discovered that fired shells are sticking in chamber. Buddies step dad offers to sell me the gun (at an attractive price ) and I agree provided it goes back to Remington to be fixed. Gun goes out and comes back with the same problem. Buddies step dad has already bought a Mossy 590 and really doesn't care, I surf the web and find that it's a common problem and take the gun for dirt cheap.
After buying I am a bit disappointed as I learn that although priced like a Police model (MSRP) the fit, finish & components are lacking.
870 Police guns are made on a different assembly line from the rest of the 870 models. Tolerances are held tighter and better components are used throughout.
Fit = I doubt you would encounter the fore-end contact that mine had with a Police model as the tolerances are more closely monitored.
Finish = powder-coat on the Tactical is nice but most Police guns are Parkerized. also I doubt that you would encounter sticking shells in a Police model as extra time would be taken to smooth the milling marks out of the chamber.
Components = this is where a huge portion of $ is saved by Remington
the Trigger groups on the Tactical guns are PLASTIC vs the Police guns Metal trigger groups.
other small things like the use of MIM ( metal injection molding ) extractors on the Tactical vs good high quality Forged extractors on the Police guns save on costs as well
After learning all this I found a few places that specialize in bringing standard 870s' ( Express, Wingmaster, ect.. ) up to Police standards but the cost is anywhere from $100-200 depending on what work needs done and what parts need replaced. Overall...... not worth it if you can just get a Police model in the first place.

Pump is great but if you want semi dont be afraid to consider it. A lot of folks told me not to get a semi auto hd shotgun because it would be unreliable blah blah blah. None of it has so far been true. Pumps are great and you cant go wrong with one but just in case, semi auto is just as worthy (certain semi autos).

An unfortunate series of events but I really doubt the best selling shotgun for so many years has more than a once in a blue moon lemon occurrence. The price difference between the express and the police models is significant. 
What would you gurus have to say about the Mossberg 500 Persuader or 590A1 Special Purpose or 500 Tactical?
What about a 20 Gauge solution loaded with Federal #2 or #3 buckshot? I can get a Mossberg 500 Tactical 20/18.5 for $375.00 and #2 should cause the trauma necessary without any risk whatsoever to innocent occupants.
I don't want to get unreasonably enthusiastic about a low price, but the Maverick 88 Security is made by Mossberg and I can grab it in 12ga 18.5" form for $225.00 -- That's pretty fucking cheap. Any reason not to?Do I really need an 870 Police Model? Seems like a cheap shotgun is going to blow away a bad guy just like an expensive shotgun as long as it is made by a reputable company like Mossberg.
Striked through so can still be read, but not liking what I am reading about the Maverick 88. I think I'll just look for a good deal on a Mossy 500 or Remmy 870. Whatever trim I wind up getting I am sure I will have purchased a reliable and proven weapon.
