This Unicorn is my third WRX wagon.. started with a black '04 which I loved and traded in for the white '06 Limited which I didn't. Delighted to be back in a black wagon again.
Having done Stage 1 and Stage 2 WRXs in the past, I decided I'd go just a bit farther with this one which will be a long-term keeper.
Completed:
VF-39 (swain coated hot side)
MadDad EL header (JH 2000 coated header, Swain coated up pipe)
APS cast turbo outlet (Swain coated)
Custom downpipe (JH 2000 coated) w/ MetalCat 3" (not coated)
MadDad Whisper 3" exhaust
VDO Vision Boost and EGT (w/ Westach probe)
Process West TMIC
Forge BPV
Tokico D-Specs
STI Takeof springs
Whiteline Com C's
Group N rear hats
Paranoid saggy butt spacers
Scooby921 strut spacers
New fuel filter
Yet to be installed, have:
KS Tech 70mm intake
JDM TGV deletes
While the injectors will be overkill for a VF39 I mainly chose them to keep my options open. In the future I want to be able to move to e85 and/or a 20g without redoing mods.
Having Clark Turner tune it remotely. Feels like a beast compared to the stage 2 cars I'm accustomed to.

Very nice. You may want to consider a larger MAF intake, I think you'll be maxing out the stock one soon.

Nice. Post more pics when you can.

Other than RCE camber plates, any plans for suspension?
I want your Whisper.
And nice limited edition RPF1s.

Nice car. Jealous. 2.0L or 2.5L?

Thanks all for the encouragement. :-)
To answer questions... It's a 2.5. Re: maxing out the maf, I'll snag a KS Tech intake when I get close (well-documented scaling info). Definitely want to get the bigger injectors installed and the tune dialed in for them before adding a bigger maf. I'd prefer to deal with just scaling one thing at a time. :-)
Re: suspension, apart from what Huck Finn pointed out I have some items laying around from previous wrx wagons. Assorted Whiteline bits (alk, front swaybar, front endlinks), a rear strut tower brace, and an '02 sedan rear swaybar.
For brakes I'm going to see if I can safely manage w/ stock rotors and Hawk HPS until I can find a deal on some '04 STI Brembos.

Yesterday I installed the OEM sedan rear sway bar and MRT endlinks along with new longer exhaust hangers (tip seemed perilously close to bumper, feared melting it).
Finally got the various hoses and fittings needed to plumb the boost gauge and the oil pressure sensor. May get those sorted this evening if time permits.

Is your Whisper single or dual tip? Can you please post some fitment pictures of it. TIA.

A BuffaloScooby member did my suspension install today (my current garage is too cramped to work around a car and the driveway is at a pretty steep angle. Oh yeah, and I'm lazy).
Dspecs, sti takeoff springs, saggy butt spacers, scooby921 strut spacers, whiteline com c's, and group n hear hats.
Very, very happy with the feel of the car now.

You lifted the suspension?

Now why you got to go and do that?
I'm hoping it'll settle more.

Not 'takeoffs' in the sense of 'copies', but in the sense that they were taken off of an STI.
Per the seller, they're '06 STI springs. Taken off at 4k miles.
Will be surprised if he sold me the wrong springs, he's a reputable vendor. Guess it could happen, though.

Modified the stock splitter to fit better with the PW TMIC today.
This entailed measuring the opening in the Process West splitter, measuring key distances from/to identical points on the stock and PW splitter, and drawing the PW opening onto the stock splitter. Then cutting out a humungous section of the stock splitter, bending a bunch back, making new side walls that match the contour of the scoop, making new side walls for the bottom of the splitter, and riveting everything together. Finally, added some foam to the top of the new scoop portion so that it won't be a hard metal edge against the hood of the car.
The middle divider in the splitter looks a little asymetical. This is because I put it in a bit cockeyed on purpose. Passenger side didn't quite get to the halfway point on the intercooler and was already riveted. So when doing the drivers side I re-formed it a bit to get it to the middle. Invisible when installed. :-)

Guess you guys aren't a fan of my sheetmetal skills. :-D
I'm not thrilled with it myself; resonates at around 2k rpm while decelerating in gear. At some point I'm going to cut the PW unit down to the dimensions I worked out for the modified stock piece.
Bought an email ProTune from Clark Turner, logged first map yesterday. Fed log to 'Virtual Dyno' software just for shits and giggles. For an unmodified base map, I think it's a pretty impressive start.
Sent him logs so he can start to dial the tune in for my specific car, received a revised map AP map but I'm thinking that I won't be able to use it until at least Friday... Daily highs will all be below freezing until then, and the last thing I need is to hit an icy patch at 80+mph.

Ordered up a set of '04 STI front lower control arms today.
Will install them and the Whiteline ALK from my first wagon and do the free caster mod. While doing that, will rotate my com c's to max camber (currently at max camber & caster). Hopefully will get at least as much positive caster as I currently have and enough static camber to be back to stock levels from the current +.06ยบ.
Would not go with sedan struts again, huge hassle.

I think I'd need to see it installed on the car...

STI lower control arms arrived yesterday.
Anyone know if my wagon front sway bar will still work, or if i need to get a sedan one now?
Offline
oooooh, good question. i can't answer it, tho. I will not be going sedan anything on mine after seeing this stuff in the suspension.
sheet metal skillz look questionable...lol

Need the longer STi fsb to work with these. Larger track width.
EDIT: You will have some alignment issues. I helped on an installation and the camber and toe came out wacky.

Put the summer wheels/tires on, changed the oil, installed my fumoto valve, and put in the whiteline subframe lock bolts.
Seriously thinking about installing the TiC fender braces, the outrigger bushings, diff mount bushings, and plumbing the boost gauge.
Not yet thinking seriously about installing the STI control arms and STI adjustable front sway.
Pondering a clunk coming from the left rear, expected to find a loose endlink... Nope. Annoying.

All your pics are dead, so this thread kinda sucks.
