Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

It would be nice to have two cigarette lighter plugs.  One in the dash and one in the armrest.  I would like to be able to plug my cell in the armrest and my XM in the dash.  I think I am going to try and run an extension from the dash outlet to behind the console and split it.  Plug the XM in behind and run the other end to the armrest.  embeercool

I love this car! But, with any car, there are small annoyances I've found:

1.Windows could roll up faster. (I'm impatient.)

2. I'd like express down and up on all of them. This is supposed to be euro luxury dammit!

3. All my friends shut these little doors way too hard. All it takes is a little push there to close 'em. Thank you.

4. Stereo doesn't play mp3s. It will get replaced anyway, but still, crappy $13,000 cars have this feature.

5. the headlights are dim

6.the stereo is dim.

7.special 9-2x floormats would have been nice. (Like the wrx.)

Anybody else got any?

I like the dim stereo, because it's not hooked up to the dash dimmer control, it is bette default to dim lighting.  most aftermarket HUs are too bright, ad don't have control over the brightness.

+1,000,000 on the doors, but that is just people not used to doors that are made well, people did it to our Volvo all the time too.

as far as #4 goes, idk how many cars in 2005 had mp3 players.  and the headlights are fine if you get better bulbs.

Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

I'm still loving my Aero after a year of ownership. My car came with a $2000 stereo courtesy of the previous owner. I can play DVDs, CDs, mp3s, wma, divx video files, files off of a usb thumb drive, it has an iPod connector, and will play bluetooth audio from my iPhone. On top of all that there is an integrated hands-free cell phone kit built-in to the stereo. Honestly, this stereo makes the car much more enjoyable.

I got the upgraded headlights so no complaints there.

My biggest complaint is probably the parchment leather seat centers. Mine look dingy and they don't clean up at all using leather cleaner.

QFT.  Soapy water will help, but the only thing that I've found that cleans the dingy parchment leather sections is the Interior Cleaner from Griot's Garage.  Sometimes even that's not enough, then I've resorted to the judicious use of 99% rubbing alcohol.

While I'm here, I'll list my other RFIs (room for improvement) on my 92x:

1. Road noise
2. Well-documented interior squeaks and rattles
3. Thin, cheap carpet
4. Tinny doors
5. Stereo system

All in all, pretty minor stuff, though #2 can be pretty annoying.  The positives, though, still far outweigh the negatives imo. I'm coming to the end of my days with the 92x, but it's been a dependable and enjoyable ride since 08/05.

Have you tried Lexol brand cleaner.  It's cheaper if you get it from a tack shop. Follow with Lexol conditioner, it'll help keep things clean.

I have tried both Lexol cleaner and protectant. The cleaner essentially made no difference in my seats - well maybe a small difference. I have two dime sized coffee stains on the seats that seem permanent.

Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

Here's one of my Subaru gripes - the fraking oil dipsitck. I'm used to cars where you can let them sit all night, pull the stick and read the oil level. When I do that on a Subaru (both my Aero and my wife's '08 Impreza) the whole tip of the stick is showing a high oil level. Then I have to wipe it, put it back in, and then read the level.

Second gripe is that when I do wipe first and then check the oil level, I find that it reads differently on each side of the stick. WTF?

It's frustrating because I can never seem to tell exactly how much oil is in the car.

Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

How are you dipping?

I slowly go down 80% of the way, then jamb it in quickly the rest of the way, always get consistent readings this way.

Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

Down all the way and then back up - I didn't think you needed some special method for a subaru dipstick.

I still wonder why, when you let the car sit all night and then pull the dipstick, that you get a dipstick with oil all over it rather than a proper reading. I've been able to do that on every car I've ever had before the Subaru. Shouldn't letting the oil settle all night give you a proper reading?

Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

+1 on the dipstick issues, particularly the wildly different readings on each side.  I don't even quite know how this could happen.

As for cleaning the leather, I recommend a Mr. Clean magic eraser.  I dunno that I'd use it over and over and over because it's abrasive, but it get's them seats quite clean, and then you can use some other product to keep them clean.   up

Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

I don't know how you guys clean your leather, but i use dishsoap and a fingernail brush and really, really get in there with the brush to get all the oil and shit out of the seat.  Oil = cracks and our asses = oil so this seems a good method.  Gets them pretty clean too.

Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

- paint: salt & sand looks like they've taken their toll on my bumper

- gearbox: specifically, I have issues getting it into reverse sometimes and first gear feels kind of notchy

- interior: the ivory portion of the seats are a pain in the butt to keep clean. lol.

- stereo: the lack of it being able to play mp3's is annoying and the fact that there is no aux input for my mp3 player.

other than that I love the car to death.
