Iota's website is going to be worth a lot...

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/26/repo … by-brands/

You wouldn't know it by looking at Saab's current automobiles, but once upon a time the Swedish marque was known for crafting almost impossibly rounded bodywork. Victor Muller, CEO of Spyker Cars, which just completed its acquisition of the Saab brand, plans to reintroduce such teardrop-shaped emotion back into the automaker's line with a new vehicle codenamed 92, or in more modern parlance, 9-2.

Don't expect to see the small, premium 9-2 before 2013 or so, when it would theoretically go up against machines like the Mini and Audi A1. According to Autocar, Saab would likely borrow a suitable set of underpinnings from GM's Opel division, as is the case with the new 2011 Saab 9-5.

If Saab is able to get this new entry-level model into production as planned, its inclusion would no doubt go a long way towards reaching Muller's stated goal of hitting 100,000 total sales per year for the newly acquired automaker. That's not too big a stretch considering that the brand sold 93,220 cars as recently as 2008. We wish him, along with the rest of those with a stake in Saab, lots of luck.

Maybe it's a repost, I dunno.  Looks like we may be getting some siblings!

It would be nice to have a new 9-2x out on the streets so people might actually know what our cars are.

Plus, we would all be really OG members!

It won't be a 9-2X.   I seriously doubt that they would put AWD in anything this small.

I just don't get the fascination with the Mini.  It's an overpriced "cute" car.  I don't care how fun it is to drive, I just don't think I could bring myself to do it.

arrow-up  Amen brother!

Not sure thats the direction the "new Saab" should take, but every other company is doing it, so how do you dismiss it?

(Funny how 5yrs ago an SUV sold... So all the car co's said "we need to make one too!"     Now toyota sells a dozen Yaris, and all the car co's say "We need to make one too!"....  I love to watch the handicapped lead the retards.)

Sorry, as to the above:  love it.   Would that be a Nine-One?

That was the original concept name iirc, but since it's about the same size as the Mini/A1, I figured it was relevant since Saab is now going to call it a 9-2 apparently.

Hell, if the Mini wasn't so tiny, I would've considered one (I would admit overpriced though). Unfortunately, I need the car for other things besides Autocross too. However, for a FWD car, they are really the funnest thing (in their price range) on wheels.  Awesome handling/grip that is ALL usable, totally benign.  Like a 911, a C5 or C6 Vette or a Ferrari (haven't had the pleasure yet on one of those, but others I trust have shared the thought after driving them), you have to drive one to understand.  And still the class leader in Solo2 G-stock and likely leader in D-stock, now that they've moved into my class. I'm guessing I'm no longer going to have to worry about placing well at Divisionals, and have likely bought my last set of DOT-R's for awhile.

Great until some lawyer at Saab decides to sue every site for copyright infringement because they are using "saab" in the name. Notice that there are zero sites out there with Porsche in name.
