All the people that bitch about their reliability, have you ever owned one to share an experience, I think not, I don't either, but a couple of my friends do own Audis (B5/B6 S4, B5 A4, and a couple TTs) and almost all are high mileage and proved to be reliable. Most UltraSports to my knowledge are 1.8T FWD's.

The 3.0's, Manuals, and Quattros are the hardest to find..... I looked last year when before I bought my 92X

I have, and I bitch about reliability.  2000 S4, Hibiscus Red.

Honestly, I can't say they are horrible, but they certainly aren't bulletproof cars off the factory floor. Many of the items can be upgraded, but it still costs money to do so. So I wouldn't (and haven't) recommend them to someone who wasn't in a stable financial situation, nor to an individual who isn't at least somewhat of a gearhead. Even the real gearheads I throw some cautionary words to.

Failure. Getting a FWD Audi is like getting an Aero with a 4eat.  star

As I said, finding an Ultrasport non-3.0 with quattro under 18K will be hard.

What about the G35x, that was another car I was looking at before gettting the  92x. I also considered an A4 or S4 but after hearing 4 of my friends almost always bitching about how expensive it was to maintain especially the biturbo S4 I was looking for, their mechanic told me to stay away from that car for some reason.

They are pricey to maintain.  The only reason I bought the Passat over an LGT was the solidity and size.  The new LGTs are bigger and very solid.  No reason not to go there now.  I would not think twice now about the LGT FTW.

I owned a B5 A4 1.8TQ. Loved that car, only minor periodic problems (like an ignition coil issue)...until the oil pump died and the engine "ate itself" (mechanic's technical wording). $9800 repair - fortunately, covered under warranty (which was a month away from expiring when the incident occurred).

In spite of my better judgment, every now and then I still toy with getting another one.

I don't hink it's a reliability issue as much as it is a cost of ownership issue.  Things break on these cars as they do on any car.  But the cost to maintain and replace components, especially on the 2.7t, will be more expensive than most people want to deal with. They are not bulletproof workhorses that can survive without a lot of tender love and care.  But if you love them they are tremendous cars.

I do not own one nor have I ever-I can't afford to.  But I have a dear friend that owned several S4's beginning with the first year B5-2000 sedan.  He had the entire engine replaced under warranty with less than 8k on the odometer. Traded it in in 2002 with no other issues.   He then owned a 2002 avant which we totalled near Steamboat Springs in 2005, rear ended a Jeep cherokee that was standing still, we were going at least 60mph upon impact.  Both of us walked away with no injuries whatsoever.  Car was totalled and he upgraded to the v8, which he put 60k before trading it on on a tdi jetta and a 2006 carrera.

If you can find a decent mileage B5 for 18k, buy it and pamper it.

Generally, on the Audi boards I frequent, I don't see any posts (regarding problems) with B5 and B6 cars, and B4's are JUST beginning to have issues, but they're now approaching 12 yrs old and most of those with fairly normal milage/age issues have milage figures in excess of 150K miles.  Sure, they aren't quite in the same league as older Toyota/Lexus, but they're not like British cars either. The issue is maintenance/oil choices for the turbo cars (either 1.8T, 2.0T or 2.7TT's), electrics (switches, interfaces), and automatic trannies on the high power cars.

Also, FWIW, the C4 chassis (such as my UrS6) and the D chassis cars (A8, S8, all gens) have the least repair issues on the boards.
