I <3 my Honduh

What I love about going back home to Charlotte......is that it also means coming back to this:

This is where she's been sitting for the past 2 and half years. The car cover hadn't been removed since the summer of 2005. It was my first car, and I spent countless high-school afternoons wrenching on it. Here she is in her glory days (around freshman year of college...2004):

Back to the present... look ma no tranny! (and one rusted to shit flywheel)

The transmission blew while I was visiting Charlotte for the weekend sometime sophomore year. I didn't want to have her towed to Greensboro since I still lived in a dorm at the time (no tools, no decent parking spot, etc...)

Anyways, I learned to live without a car for about 6 months, then I managed to snag a running CRX for free off of a CRX forum I post on.  banana    Drove it around for about 2 years until I got the 92x... meanwhile, the Si had been sitting in Charlotte unloved that entire time...  sad

So now I'm home for about 5 or 6 days, with nothing else to do but watch my brothers dogs while he's on vacation. I've had the following parts just sitting and waiting to be put on...I suppose I should finally get off my ass  hmm

Those flywheel bolts are gonna suck, but luckily I've come prepared:

Also discovered a hornets next  banghead ...but its ok, I've come prepared:

Anyways, on to teh goodz:

My friend and I completely rebuilt my transmission... all new Honda-OEM seals, bearings, synchros. Oh, added a brand new torsen LSD too  banana

Every bushing on the chassis is getting replaced with either polyurethane or OEM-Honda:

Motor mounts

Racing (11lbs IIRC) flywheel:

Also have a set of these wheels ready to go on...

We'll see how much of this shit actually gets done...

I took care of the hornets today... before I decided that I just wanted to drink beer instead  embeer

Maybe the transmission will go in tomorrow... sly

Re: I <3 my Honduh

My second car ever was a Flint Black Metallic 1990 Honda CRX Si. My most favoritist car to date. Nothing I have driven handled as nicely as that car did.

Until it got whacked by a Nissan 4x4.  banghead

Oh, and have fun with those rear control arm bushings, I did the urethane ones on my '94 Civic. Not fun to get out. Pretty easy to install, though.

Well... 4 hours, 2 broken wrenches, 3 broken sockets, a bike rack (leverage FTW), and 6 beers later

...the last of the flywheel bolts are off  banghead

Re: I <3 my Honduh

Just realized that both of the ricey corner-lenses are aquariums... they're both about 1/3 full with water.

They were on the car when I bought it in 2001... just one of things I just never got around to replacing.

We'll I guess its about time... I just bought this set off eBay:
http://i22.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/a3/62/3ecb_1_b.JPG

I've always wanted the amber corners, and I think the smoked bumper lights will look sweet with the black GT3s.  cool

Sooo....

Hit another bump in the road.

I had double checked to make sure I had every part that I needed...but somehow I completely forgot about the pilot bearing!  banghead

Anyways, I went to the Honda dealership where they said they'll hopefully get it in tomorrow...  hmm I'm a moron...

Re: I <3 my Honduh

Update:

:No pics yet...I left my camera up at school! sad
.
.
.
Ok, so I never really followed up with how my end-of-summer resurrection went...

Basically, the transmission was a bitch to put in! There was NO room to work under there, and working on a slanted driveway didn't help either... banghead Several hours passed, and it was finally back in.  I bolted the suspension/shift linkage/wheels/starter/etc. back up,  put oil in the the transmission, and... "oh hey, is that oil on your driveway?". Hmmm...maybe a trans. seal is bad. Nope, its just a tiny (1/2 inch) hairline crack at the bottom of my transmission case.  sad sad

So the transmission I had spent the past year and a half rebuilding (I was learning, give me a break) formed a crack during the install process... I was happy.  smile

[/summer]

After spending a couple of months figuring out what I wanted to do with the project (and even considering selling it all together), I decided to move to the dark side and get a B-swap. Its getting a B16A2 from a 92-95 Civic SiR, and a hydraulic LSD transmission (which means I'm converting my car from OBD0 to OBD1, and from cable-trans to hydro-trans).

Re: I <3 my Honduh

Also, the valve cover on my swap is probably gonna be in bad shape (just like all Honda motors) so I'm gonna get a powdercoated one. Which color do you guys think I should go with?

This?
