That is a Vintage 550 Spyder replica - my other 300 HP turbocharged horizontally opposed 4 cylinder.

Very interesting project, I look forward to you completing it 
We have quite a few guys locally who have swapped anything from RA to LGT to STi trannies into their cars. Then, of course, we have the guys w/ the cryo treated gears, etc. Some crazy stuff out there Best of luck!

Vintage is the manufacturer. Vintage uses coilovers instead of torsion bars in the rear and the frame is more like a 550A - it has more three dimensional stucture, the Beck uses a simple ladder frame similar to the original 550.

The VF-39 took car of that.
I have determined that I need an STi flywheel for the swap. The 06 WRX uses a 230mm clutch and the STi uses a 240.

06's use a push clutch where the 05 and older use a pull clutch
Legacy GT gears are NOT used in 2006 WRX's. 2006 WRX's are the same as older WRX boxes except they have a push-style clutch and a 3.7 final drive.

I have that site bookmarked. That is the controller I was leaning towards.
I will probably order a lightened STi flywheel tonight. That is the one part that I know that I need. Probably an ACT Streetlight - $325 including shipping from Gruppe-S. bringing my total to $3887 ($3562 for the used parts including sales tax and shipping)
I cannnot find any consensus on the front axles. I thought I could use the ones that came on the car, but maybe not.
The conversion axles in the rear are $1200 
so I am looking into 04 STi rear hubs etc so I can use the 05 STi axles that I have - if I have to spend that kind of money , I might as well get STi rear brakes out of it. I still might be able to get some sort of axle adapters.
My goal was to get the six speed with front LSD, controllable center LSD, and stonger rear end for the price of PPG gears. I still might make it, but not if I have to buy front and rear axles.

Can you use a different R160 diff to keep everything in the rear the same but match the sti final drive ratio? Then with an auto driveshaft you wouldn't have to swap as many parts.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes regarding non-registered vendors. I just came across this swap discussion and I just thought I'd pop in to answer any questions you might have about my Auto DCCD controller.

That's cool. They are pretty uptight over there when it comes to unregistered vendors. Well, uptight in general, lol.
I just wanted to see if anyone had any questions. I know when I did my STi swap back in late 2004 I had a lot of questions about what would be best and what would work with what.
We swapped a JDM STi version 7 drivetrain into my WRX, hence how I got started with the electronics for the DCCD.
Necessity is the mother of invention and all that...

I already have the driveshaft - the STi and auto driveshafts are the same length and yes, using the weaker R160 with a 3.9 ratio is the easier way to go, but the R180 is stronger and has a better clutch-style LSD vs the viscous LSD in the Saab.
I got an e-mail today from a junkyard that has the STi rear hubs, I will call tomorrow and find out what is included (complete with brakes?)

Glad you are listening. My main question about your unit is: Can your unit be made to work with the STi thumbwheel instead of the rotary knob? I have this weird obsession with making mods look like they came from the factory. For instance - I love the fact that I can run my Valentine V-1 hardwire through the Autodimming Homelink mirror wiring cover. I consider buying the far more expensive and apparently less functional JDM sourced unit from RalliSpec just because it uses the STi thumbwheel. I think the thumbwheel by itself is around $50.

sounds expensive. Are there adapter plates available to go between R160 and R180 diffs? I remember in the Nissan world we had the same problem, but from R180 to R200 or R210 for the crazies. I'm surprised with the popularity of the WRX that an aftermarket vendor hasn't come up with an inner CV joint that has R160 axle splines in the middle and an R180 outer bolt pattern.

Edwin at AndrewTech is looking into adapters for me right now - he needed the spline count for the R180 diff - apparently all R180 diffs are not the same. He doesn't think that the adapters are vey strong, he recommends the adapter axles. The 05 STi axles I have use 27 splines on the inside and outside ends. I don't really understand why the spline count on the diff side matters as I assume that the R180 inner CV and diff splines are used in the conversion, maybe it is just an easy way to identify the type of CV that is used.
