How to restore finish to plastic parts above-below hatchback window

Hello everyone,

Just purchased my 8th used SAAB (over 24-year period).
Most recent buy is a black 2005 SAAB 9-2x Linear.

The car has only 50K miles on it.  Had a lot of "revival"
work done on the engine and key components to
make sure I wouldn't have to learn Subaru too quickly.

Do have one issue -- the black plastic part overlooking the
hatchback window and the black plastic hatchback panel
under the window.

Both are extremely dull (car probably spent too much time
out in the Georgia sun/weather.

I am just starting to dabble in ways to clean the two pieces
and get their gloss to come back.

Not sure wether the original gloss was due to the molding
process or because the parts were clear-coated.

Any ideas/experience with getting these parts to clean up
and show a gloss finish closer to the other body panels?

Thank you!

Welcome aboard!  You’ll find a ton of great information here.

The paint on these cars, especially black is awful, as you’ve seen.

I’ve had the same issue on mine and a replacement hatch I got for it had the same condition.

In my experience with them there really isn’t anything to bring back and you’ll need to paint it or have it painted.

Liquid shoe polish does the same thing I’ve used it for years and much cheaper.
