How do the de-icing wiper work?

How do the de-icing wiper work? It doesnt look like there are any wires going through the arms or blades. There are 2 vents near the wipers tho, any ideas

The glass under the wipers has a heat element in it.

They're not de-icing wipers, they're wiper de-icers. When your wipers are stuck to your windshield, you can de-ice them to get them unstuck.

I ASSuME they too work off the rearwindow defroster button, or do they work off the regular defroster button?

There is a separate switch next to the fog lite switch.

Re: How do the de-icing wiper work?

For those of us without foglights, it is the lonely switch on the left side of the dash.

Re: How do the de-icing wiper work?

So is the deicing simliar to a rear window? IE a circuit going through the bottom of the windoshield to heat it up? If thats the case would there be issues when u need to replace a windshield?

Re: How do the de-icing wiper work?

To me it looks the same as the rear defogger.  Thus, if you had the right part number, it shouldn't be an issue during windshield replacement.

Just make sure the glass man knows.

Re: How do the de-icing wiper work?

The switch next the fog light is for heated rearview mirrors. Wiper De-Icers work off the rear window defroster switch on the center stack.

Not what my dealer said.

Switch on the CC heats the rear window.

Switch to the left of the steering column, heats the mirrors AND the wiper heaters.

Re: How do the de-icing wiper work?

I'm with Scargo.  The rearview mirros and de-icers are part of the same package, it seems likely that they work off the same button.  I don't feel like going and getting the brick out of my car though to read about it.

Re: How do the de-icing wiper work?

I purchased another Saab 9-2x, my first 9-2x was a linear without leather seats, without heated seats and without the front windshield wiper de-icers but it came with factory fog lights.  My Saab 9-2x Aero model has leather seating,  heated seats and front windshield wiper de-icers but no foglights.  The windshield wiper de-icers actually work well here in New York.

Re: How do the de-icing wiper work?

All 2005 Aeros came with foglights originally, sounds like yours have gone missing. 2005 Linears only got the foglights with the Premium package, so there's where your Aero foglights went. lol

FWIW - I lived and drove my 9-2x in VT for 7 years, and thought the de-icers were basically worthless. The sideview mirror de-icers worked, albeit slowly.

BTW - this thread is so old that it already has a learner's permit and is applying for a license in June.  sly
