Hi all,
First time poster here. There is a 2006 9-2x Aero for sale in IL right now and I just wanted to give y'all a heads up about it because it isn't all that it seems. First off, it is $15k. Second off, the exact same car (I checked VIN and everything) was for sale in IL about 2-3 weeks ago. I was attempting to purchase it but I could not do so legally because it had mechanical issues, could not pass emissions, and was deemed "unsafe" by the dealership. At that time, it was going for $8k. Additionally, it had a manual transmission originally but now has an automatic. I checked the VIN for both cars and they are the same. The new dealer could have very well done the necessary work to fix the car but it definitely has a A LOT of history that they are not disclosing.

Also, the cars never came with a 5 speed automatic transmission
Those seats look cherry.

I honestly don't see much issue with this car. Emissions in IL and IN are pretty simple, if your check engine light is on, you fail. Could of been something simple. It's not that uncommon to have issues pop up with cars this age, even with low mileage. Parts have limited life spans too. To me it sounds like the original dealer had the car listed wrong and for too cheap, and that is why they painted you this story of how it is unsafe to drive, when in reality they realized they could sell it for more money. They wholesaled it instead to another dealer that probably paid around $10-12k I would guess. Honestly, that price isn't too crazy when you see that it was a 1-owner car with very low miles. The only reason I would hesitate to buy is because it is an automatic, otherwise it looks like a nice car.
PS I work in the car industry.

I agree - looks like the original dealer messed up on pricing and bailed themselves out of it.
I don't think it's worth $15k with an auto transmission, but that's the lowest mileage example I've seen in years so maybe it is.

I see what ya'll are saying with the dealer messing up. I just wanted to advise caution about it. And it was originally listed with a manual transmission which was in line with the VIN, if I remember correctly, so either one of the dealers messed up a listing or it is a red flag.

I know the VIN spreadsheet is not perfect but it does confirm this is an automatic Arctic Silver Metallic. If it were a manual I'd be tempted.

Agreed. I had a plane ticket out to Chicago to buy it, when it was listed at the previous dealer. The day after I bought the ticket I found out they were no longer going to sell it. Welp, not a lot lost tickets are cheap right now and looks like I just wound have flown out for an automatic anyway.

Thank "carsandbids" for 15k prices..

Mind you that car is 2006 manual, but it does have higher miles.

Actually COVID is more to blame it seems, as all used car prices have gone through the roof.

Everybody working from home is surfing used car sites? I know I do.

More about low availability of new cars due to supply chain disruptions as well as people who would potentially 'normally' be looking for new cars now trying to save a little money and going with used instead. So, much higher demand in the used car market.

So how much does Doug charge to post a few nice words on the auction page?

I can be persuaded, Starbucks cards please.

The idea is to bump the price up, not tank it!
