Wanted: 05/06 9-2x aero.

Hi,
Noob here looking for a 9-2x aero, manual. Trying to avoid rust buckets and junk. I know there are some clean rides out there and I am trying to tap into that world. Distance is not a big issue, so show me what you have.
Thanks driving

Re: Wanted: 05/06 9-2x aero.

After reading late in the night and much of the day, I can see how much the rust issues affects these beauties. I will search for a West Coast car, but it seems these are sort of hard to find. They look like fun cars and I enjoy the design much more than the subies. I had a 2002 Subie WRX, silver with the gauges and all. It was a slick ride, but it seemed to be a fan boy car more so than a driver. Maybe it was me. Long story short, the wife totaled it when I was deployed. I left her and bought something else, the wife too. big_smile

I take it forums are dead now. I used to be a senior fella over at Focus Fanatics, then fb hit and we all lost interest in the forums. I always found it to be the best source for information and good old fashioned ribbing.

Re: Wanted: 05/06 9-2x aero.

Not quite dead, but certainly on life support.

WAY better resource that you can still search and get catalogued info vs. Facebook, though. I think that's by far the biggest loss.

Your other problem is just that they're rare cars, so, not many out there! You'll have to be a combination of patient and aggressive to get what you want. Be willing to wait for the right car to go on sale, but then be ready to pounce on it with cash no matter how far away from you it is. That's the best advice I can give.

Great advice and much appreciated. I'll keep lurking around and in the meantime, I will put my 14' VW Jetta GLI ED 30 on the chopping block.

Re: Wanted: 05/06 9-2x aero.

I've been running a search on SearchTempest (searches Craigslist nationally) and will also check car sale sites. I've also tried Facebook marketplace but their location function is very limited. I'm trying to keep my eye out for one too but most of them are rusted or beat up. The couple that I did see in good condition are asking way too much money for them.

Agreed. I have seen a lot of rusty ones. Also, the forums are just not as active as they once were. I was hoping to scoop up one that a member was parting with. One of those well-cared for models. big_smile

Re: Wanted: 05/06 9-2x aero.

I have a rust free 05 Aero that you can try to buy if you are willing to pay the I don’t want to sell it price.
I actually don’t know what that number is but I’m willing to listen. Car came from Georgia, I’ve never driven it during winter time, it has never seen salted roads. Body has 206,500 miles, drive train came out of my 142,000 mile bugeye that came from Alabama, rust free also.
Motor is a jdm ej205 with AVCS I just installed in late summer.

2005 satin gray metalic aero, sold. 06 wrx, adios!
2005 black aero, rescue project, jdm EJ205 avcs.
2005 desert silver aero, traded.
2002 bugeye, sedan, JDM STi ver 7 swapped.

I appreciate the info. I will see what I can find out about this. I honestly have no idea what these are supposed to run, pricewise. I am partial to Rodman's whip, but I have no idea where to begin on pricing.  neutral

Just ordered a new td04HL 19t turbo, getting ready for STi injector and new turbo installation/tuning.
The rescue project and I are destined to stay together forever. I love the car, I don’t see anything out there I want to buy to replace it.

Updated pictures in the add. Also just found out that the sun damaged part on trunk is just a bolt on piece of plastic. Easy fix so now I’m hoping to do that myself. I just tuned it back to stage 1 with the access port to enjoy the time I have with it. A lot of interest but no one serious. I want it to go to a good home. Have my boy asking about a payment option, so we’ll see. Thanks

She does look clean. Issues I personally have are that it's black, a 2006 (prefer to get the 2005) and all the way in CA lol

Re: Wanted: 05/06 9-2x aero.

Regarding the plastic garnish plate, that could be more difficult to find/replace than you think.  The only ones I could find a few years ago were from salvage.  When removing them from the hatch the anchors the bolts and clips connect to may be brittle and can break in catastrophic ways making it impossible to securely reattach without some creative reconstruction.  I chose to just replace the whole hatch and paint the faded spoiler and garnish plate.  The plate had already broken off of mine because the aforementioned anchors had all shattered - the AZ sun, heat and less-than-caring teenage yanking and slamming being the likely causes.  The good news is that hatch is an easy replacement.

Oh! Nice to know! Thank you. I’ll let the new owner know. They might just paint it w/o taking it off. With that said. It’s sold. Thanks for the feedback everyone. ✌

Re: Wanted: 05/06 9-2x aero.

Congrats on the sale. Yeah, I’d suggest just painting it if there aren’t any other issues with it.
