Any bikers here?

Hello all. Any bikers here? What are your on this one https://www.subaruonlineparts.com/sku/soa567b041.html.

Or any bike rack suggestions? I'm more of a rear rack than a roof top rack type. Thanks!

Pass on that. Get a rack that holds the bike by the wheels, not hanging from the frame. I use a Saris Superclamp 2, but there are a lot of other options out there.

You get the picture.

If you are just putting cheap bikes on there, then I guess that Thule rack you linked is alright. If you care about your bikes though, get one like the ones linked.

Re: Any bikers here?

I used the WRX roof rails with Yakima bike trays (fork mount) on my 9-2x.  I've used a rack similar to the Thule in the original post, but never with high-end bikes.  I'd never put my road bike in one of those, except in an emergency.

Re: Any bikers here?

GF and I are using the Saris MTR, similar to the 1up.

Thule and Yakima seems to let the wheels and bike move around a little more than I liked.

I previously have had roof racks from Thule on the car and one of the Saris Cycle On platform racks.  Only drove the bikes into a low overhang once!

Why?

My road bike is carbon.  Being suspended from the top tube would still allow movement, and I wouldn't want the clearcoat to get damaged, because the carbon fibers are next.  MTB?  No problem.

Maybe I'm being over-cautious.  The hitch mount I've got that suspends like that has a screw-tightened clamp for the top tube, and I'm not sure that clamping like that is recommended.  I'd ask my bike shop friend before doing that.

Re: Any bikers here?

I have a roof rack on my car and normally run 2 trays and an upright. If I put my carbon bikes (Road & Cross) up on the roof I use the upright rack. It locks in the wheel and does not touch the frame. I used to put my Road bike into the trays, but discovered that my carbon fork legs were starting to delaminate from the carbon dropouts. Needless to say I no longer carry the carbon bike in the trays. Part of the issue may be from having the bikes in the trays for long distance trips which is why I bought the upright rack. Most of the time I put the road bikes into the back seat.

Clamping carbon is a bad idea on the tubes. I would never carry my carbon bikes on a rack that clamped the tubes.
