Re: Impreza Roof Rails Install Tips

I just did this on my '05. Thanks for the excellent instructions Kornfield - worked exactly like you said. Took 3ish hours, but I was working fast because I was outside in January in Boston! Here's hoping that sealant cures sometime before March.

Re: Impreza Roof Rails Install Tips

I picked up a set of impreza roof rails for $50 with the hardware.  But after reading this it sounds like I need the impreza weather trim as well?  Where would I get this?

Re: Impreza Roof Rails Install Tips

arrow-up yo can clip your existing inserts, OR trade them for Impreza ones for a profit.  Some Impreza wagon owners want the clean rail free look and want our "deletes". Search Impreza websites to see if someone wants to trade.

Re: Impreza Roof Rails Install Tips

arrow-up then you'll need the gutter covers from an Impreza wagon. This isn't one of those, "you can have it both ways" situations.

Re: Impreza Roof Rails Install Tips

arrow-up an impact driver may help here. Not certain why so stuck, can only think thread locker or corrosion.

Re: Impreza Roof Rails Install Tips

You don't need to (really, shouldn't) post the same question in several places.

The 9-2x never came with roof rails, only blanking strips. 2002-2007 Impreza wagon rails bolt right up, but it does require removal of your headliner (and basically all the interior trim above the bottom of the windows) in order to install so you can get to the bolts.

Are the roof rails from a 2005 92x Aero the same as the WRX rails?

Noted, sorry about that.

More info, I purchased a set of rails from a bone yard that were on a 2005 92x Aero. I assumed the rails on the Aero were factory installed. It seems to me that the rails in this post http://i.imgur.com/UShRaNv.jpg are thicker than the rails that were installed on the 2005 Aero. Is the factory Rail the same for an Impreza base model vs the WRX model?

Re: Impreza Roof Rails Install Tips

The difference you noticed probably has more to do with changes implemented along the way on different year models from 02 thru 07.

2005 satin gray metalic aero, sold. 06 wrx, adios!
2005 black aero, rescue project, jdm STi ver 7 drivetrain.
2005 desert silver aero, work horse JDM EJ205 AVCS
2002 bugeye, sedan :-( new project

Thanks for feedback, I ordered a 2nd pair of rails from an 03 WRX that appear to be thicker/more of a squared off rail, either way I will be selling a pair of rails in the near future. : )
