Phase 1 audio install completed-pics inside

Phase 1:

Subaru pop-up din unit

Alpine 9853 Headunit
Alpine 700watt max mono class D MOSFET amplifier mrp-m350
Alpine 10inch Type R 4ohm Subwoofer - wired at 2ohms
Q-logic 10-inch subwoofer box made with mdf

Rockford Fosgate 4-guage 800W car amp kit.
Rockford Fosgate Distribution Block
Rockford Fosgate 40 amp Fuses
Rockford Fosgate 8-guage Grounding Kit for amp input
Monster Cable XP navajo white LPE insulated speaker wire

Optima Red Top battery

pics

These are the two pieces of wood I cut out and painted black.  Then I clearcoated them with high temp engine paint.  The amplifier is going to sit on these so that it will get sufficient cooling

This is the headunit with the subaru popup din.  As with other peeps using this you have to drill holes in the mounting plates to make this work.

This is where I placed the amplifier.  The picture is with the seat all the way forward.  I did not make any cuts of the carpet with this install.  I used existing holes in the carpet and just plumbed all the wires through.  The rcas and remote on wires went through the center console.  I placed the distribution block there too.  I secured it to the carpet with industrial velcro.  I did not stick anything to the actual carpet.  One side of the velcro stuck pretty well to the carpet so I just used that side only.  I used both sides of velcro to attach the amplifier to the two pieces of wood I painted.

This is a picture with the seat in my normal riding position.  Only thing thats visible is the rca input protector that came with the amplifier.  When I was sitting in the back unless I actually tried to feel the amp it was pretty much stealth.

Picture of the alpine type R sub with the Q-logic subwoofer box.  Total weight of box with sub is about 35 pounds.

phase 2:

for certain:
Alpine type r 6.5 coaxial speakers

maybe/thinking about it:
Custom rear box for sub, the one made so that you can access your trunk tray.  At the same time I dont really like the idea of a static box that I cannot take out easily.

It sounds good so far.  I was not going for overwhelming bass just enough to make music sound good.  Having a wagon really helps carry the bass though and I only have one slight rattle turning it way way up.  Rattle is in the homelink mirror I installed.  You can barely hear it so I am pretty happy as of now.

I will add more pics after I install my coaxial speakers.  Waiting on the IAperformance spacers

I'm liking the floor net in your car, where did you purchase it and how do you like it?

its just the standard subaru cargo net.  I generally carry larger things and i hate taking the cargo net off every single time.  So i just used the existing loops and it fit perfectly.

Re: Phase 1 audio install completed-pics inside

looks good hinduluv.

Wish I had the know how (and $$$) to customize my stereo.

In my longterm goals, I'm gonna go with a double din dvd/nav system.

For now, I will suffer with the stock unit.Besides, in this car I actually like to hear the engine too! (unlike my last beater, which had a system.)

Hinduluv i would seriously think of getting a grill on that speaker before you put something through it.  That would ruin anyones day to put a gallon of milk or something like that through that nice speaker!!!

P.S. I have a 15" type R in my 2001 Mountaineer in a Q logic Bandpass box.  Best speaker i have ever had. I think you will be very happy with that speaker.big_smile

Re: Phase 1 audio install completed-pics inside

how would a grill protect a speaker from a gallon of milk? they all got holes in them

the grill that came with the box looked horrible.  i tried modifying it buy cutting of the stupid parts but it still looked bad.  I might paint it black or something.

anyone know a cool place to buy grills?  or have one like custom made to say something?

i think that would be cool.

Re: Phase 1 audio install completed-pics inside

ok gallon of milk was a bad example.  Just something floating around in the back. I would hate to see something poke a hole in that speaker thats all.  Happened to me once.sad
i'm sure crutchfield.com has some grills.
