Re: 05 desrt silver aero work horse

When you had the gas tank out, did you replace the rear hard brake lines, too? Or at least inspect the distribution block?

Foolishly, I did not, I hope I don't come to regret that oversight.

Not too bad for a beater, driver side headlight is letting water in, have to take it all apart and seal it.
Thank you sir.

Re: 05 desrt silver aero work horse

Work horse has developed a brake oil leak on the passenger side by the rear tire where the brake lines all meet at a 4 port block. I now wish I had taken care of that issue when the gas tank was out. Oh well, that’s not what happened so here we are. It’s a dead end for me, I’m going to give the car to my friend Alex in exchange for doing all the mechanical work to swap my black Saabaru ver 7 drive train to my bugeye sedan, and viceversa. It’s a lot of work to do the swap and I’m just not going to have the time to do the work. My friend Alex has been wanting the work horse for some time, he can fix it and keep it on the road.
I’m removing some of my mods and transferring ownership when my bugeye is turn key.
Good bye work horse, you have been a good friend, you are going to a good new home.

Re: 05 desrt silver aero work horse

Ah, another Achilles heel of the 9-2x... Sorry to hear, but that distro block & the associated 4 lines are a nightmare that goes beyond dropping the gas tank. I think the rear subframe has to come out to do it properly. The brake lines are one of the first parts installed on the bottom of the unibody during assembly.

Re: 05 desrt silver aero work horse

Yup, I remember you mentioned it when the gas tank was getting changed but it was too late by the time it came up. Oh well, I don’t really need 3 cars anyway. I’m ok letting it go.

Re: 05 desrt silver aero work horse

Ooooff, sorry to hear that, surprised there isn't a decent hack fix for this design flaw. The fuel line distro on the driver side is a weak point as well, I do my best to keep both clean and coated in Fluidfilm

Oh yeah, I did. Old man syndrome typically presents initially as repeating oneself.

Re: 05 desrt silver aero work horse

It had 146,000 miles when I took it over, it’s just shy of 189,000 miles on the clock, it served me well, couple of winters, several trips to Missouri and back to NY, it’s been a good reliable friend. Alex will keep it going.

Re: 05 desrt silver aero work horse

I miss the old work horse, it donated a few parts for my new work horse, my black Saabaru that was previously ver 7 STi swapped.
The bugeye donated the drive train for the new work horse and a new to me jdm ej205 avcs enabled will complete the power line.
The JDM ECU with Stephen Clark tune moves to the new work horse.
The ver 7 top mount moves on to the new work horse.
Summer and winter wheels/tires move on to the new work horse.
Hitch and bicycle rack move on to the new work horse.
Alpine head unit with navigation move on to the new work horse.
