Replace Coolant Reservoir... Need To Burp?

I’m getting ready to replace the coolant reservoir that sits above the turbo. Since it sits so high, and since there will be no other coolant loss in the system, will I really need to burp the system? It seems to me that just adding fluid at that point might be sufficient. I appreciate your experience and knowledge with us.

If you're only replacing the reservoir, I would anticipate that you're right.

I know on the NA Motor you can burp the system somewhat by giving the upper radiator hose a squeeze. Not sure if this is different on the turbo or not.

Re: Replace Coolant Reservoir... Need To Burp?

I just installed the new reservoir. Emptied it with a turkey baster, swapped in the new one, and put the removed coolant back in the new reservoir. Only lost about a tablespoon worth. In fact, the new plastic one must be a little smaller than the OG metal one... I had a couple ounces left over which I put in the overflow reservoir up by the radiator. Ran her up to operating temperature. Did a few WOT runs with 16+ pounds of boost. All is well. No burping needed for this job.
