My project 9-2x Linear

A while back during a Christmas party I was given the opportunity to buy a manual 05 9-2x linear for $500. Being super excited I bought the car after looking at it for 15 minutes and not asking any questions.

After that the car just sat in my garage for 4 months as I was still 15 at the time. It just collected dust as the only thing I did was change the headlight bulbs and lose the retaining clip.

I got a replacement from the only other guy in Washington I know with a 9-2x, Bradrcr, and still didn't drive my car.

Nothing really happened except for I took it out once every 2-3 weeks to learn to drive a manual.

2 months later I got my license and started to drive my car and take care of it.

This post is gonna be a timeline for me so I can see where I started and where I end up hopefully years to come.  up

This is how the car started out

While I do love the color, I'm looking to change it someday. Maybe a nice gunmetal gray  tongue

Gotta say, I love this plate even if it's kinda unoriginal

The first official mod however is a new head unit! I am basically paying $50 for a glorified AUX cord

found a few pennies in there and more dust than I could fathom

I haven't installed it yet as I need a wiring harness that will fit the new unit. While I could try and wire it up myself, I don't trust my skill enough to not burn down my car.

I know it's not much but I plan on voiding every warranty in the books so don't worry  up

Re: My project 9-2x Linear

sounds like you have some fun things planned.  However, I would also take a look at the rear shock tower corrosion threads around here (some pretty recent) and maybe check yours out before you sink a lot of money and time into it.  Good luck!

Re: My project 9-2x Linear

As long as you don't go hacking the harness up to put the stereo in - an adapter harness will be $30 well spent. Plus, it means you can do 99% of the wiring outside of the car (connect the radio harness to the adapter harness) and plug it in!

Congrats!

Re: My project 9-2x Linear

Here with a short update.

Read all of your messages and thanks for the support.  up

I took a look at the rear struts but couldn't get a good enough idea if I need to do something with it. I'm planing on jacking it up to really look into it later.

Anyway here is the update with the stereo.

this is just testing the wiring harness and it works perfectly!

After putting on the panel I gotta say, best $50 you could spend.

Perfect fitment and it's the start to my black and blue theme.  big_smile

Not sure what I want to do next, maybe swap in sti seats

Re: My project 9-2x Linear

Another Update!

Lots happened since I installed a new head-unit

First of all just a nice pic at the gas station. Me and a couple of friends went to a pick and pull looking for STI seats but those don't exist in my area

http://i.imgur.com/llJtTpD.jpg?1

A real update however is I picked up these wheels for cheap and they are getting new tread later this month.

http://i.imgur.com/Xif4ORp.jpg?2

They are 17 inches and I think they will be a good visual improvement from stock linear wheels once I get them powder coated black.

A real modification went down a few days ago. I started the Koji mod as my first real project. Not fun.  banghead

This was after the scary oven phase.... I have never been more scared in my life of screwing up

http://i.imgur.com/vIM6TN8.jpg?2

Also on a side note, they put way too much adhesive to hold these things together

But after 7 hours and many many swear words I finished.

All this work to be blocked by foggy headlights  mad

I am surprised at how well this is coming together despite my limited budget.

Also big thanks to BradRCR for helping me with the Koji mod

Re: My project 9-2x Linear

Get a 3M polishing kit for those lenses on Amazon. Make sure you get the one with the velcro-backed drill attachment, and use a variable speed electric drill. You will kill both of your batteries on a cordless drill before you're halfway done with one headlight.

Ask me how I know.  roll

Re: My project 9-2x Linear

BTW, that bumper beam looks quite nice, I don't think you have much rust on that car, if any.  up
