Do you work for Continental? I was gonna buy some ExtremeContact DWS06 for my GTI (don't have the money for two sets of wheels right now, so all-seasons for me) but ended up going with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. The Michelins seemed to get better reviews.  I had Continentals on my 9-2x and my wife has Continentals on her RAV4, so I was a little weary to venture to a different brand.  Still have to mount mine though.

Great tires,  I had them on the Saab.  They will be my next tire, too.

I have Conti dws06 on the outback and on my new beater, really like them, also had the 2 previous models of Conti all season tires, they were good too.

I just drove a 2009 Mercedes C63 AMG w/ summer tires.  It's single digits here. I could barely keep that car straight  lol

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

Another quick update:

The wheels and tires are on the car and have been for over two months. Cold temps merely make the rear axle hop around when too much power is applied instead of the expectation of zero grip in sub forty degree weather. When it's warmer than that out, the car simply grips and doesn't let go. Where the OE Pirellis would let loose with any hint of lateral motion, the Contis simply grab the road and make it their bitch. It takes a clutch dump to break the tires free now, which in a 400+ hp car is pretty great performance.

I did mention that right after I got it that I had no plans to modify anything, but that's already out the window. I picked up a set of lowering springs for $80. When I changed the tire size, it made the rear end fender gap even more pronounced, so A 1.5" drop took care of that. It literally took me 45 minutes and a 15mm socket to do it. I haven't done the fronts yet, but what was once an extreme rake is now nearly level (1/4" reverse rake now). I'll probably leave it like this for now.

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

I may put in my front springs this week, just to see how it looks.

I scored a set of S550 ('15-'18) Mustang front 4-piston calipers for $50 on craigslist this weekend ( banana ), only to discover that the caliper bodies are too wide to clear the spokes on my wheels by at least 1/4" ( sadbanana ).  Here's what they would have looked like:

https://images.craigslist.org/00101_i5X27U8b5Wm_600x450.jpg

They’re designed for a 14  rotor. Really bummed that they didn't fit, I hope I can flip them on CL for $100.  big_smile

That is dirt cheap for any kind of 4 piston calipers! Much less new take offs. Maybe wheel spacers?

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

I may buy some spacers on Amazon just to try it out.

Is 1/2" the generally accepted maximum "safe" thickness? I was thinking about getting some cheap spacers at AutoZone to try out and see how much I need.

If I need ~1/4" more clearance, 1/2" spacers should do the trick and leave me 1/4" of clearance, correct? Ideally, if I go the spacer route, I'd want as little spacer as I needed.

Keep in mind that I still need to buy 14" rotors and braided stainless lines to finish this swap... big_smile

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

Anything 3/8" (10mm) or less you can get away with a hub centric spacer. However, you'll need to judge if you need to replace the lugs for longer ones to compensate for the spacer thickness.

Instead of wasting money on cheap spacers, get some nuts/washers, stack them as necessary and find out.

1/8" clearance is enough.

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

arrow-up Yeah, I'll get some cheap washers at Lowe's today to test it out for spacing. I want to know just how far off I am...

EDIT: So as it turns out, I need to stack 6 washers to get the wheel spokes to clear the caliper. That’s about 1/2  worth. Add another 1/8  for clearance and you’re at 5/8  total. I wasn’t able to thread the nuts onto the bolts, and check the new offset... but it’s just not gonna work. The tires and wheels are going to poke beyond the fenders.  hmm

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

The guy who bought them is going to try and retrofit them to a SN95 Mustang (a late 90s car). He saw my 19"x 9" wheels and exclaimed, "They didn't fit under those??"

Good luck, buddy.  embeer

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

Almost a year since my last update...

I just changed the rear lower control arms from the flexy Ford ones to square tubular BMR arms with poly bushings. The rear end doesn't hop around under power much at all anymore.
I changed the transmission fluid over to Royal Purple Synchromax. Shifts are notably improved.
The rear tires have just 4/32" of tread remaining on them. While the Conti ECS is a very sticky road tire, longevity is not one of it's strong points. They don't have 10k on them yet.  hmm
I replaced the stock plastic clutch release hose (reservoir to slave cylinder) with a McLeod braided stainless hose and replaced the clutch pedal return spring with a heavier Steeda unit.

I still have not installed my front lowering springs, but the rear has been lowered for over a year now with no issues. I might lower the front to see how low it gets this summer. My driveway has a very bad cement drainage ditch at the end of it, I can scrape the chin NOW.

check me out at @krazykarguy on Instagram for pics. As mentioned before, I can't use media sharing at work to post pics to a hosting site to link here.
