2005 9-2x Linear - New owner checking in

Well, really too late to do the usual "is this price too high" post.  I already bought the car.  2005 Linear with a 5 speed.  Paid $4500.

Pros:
-One owner car
-Local owner
-73K miles
-Timing belt done at 71K
-Clutch just replaced last week.
-4 like new good quality tires.
-No dents or major dings

Cons:
-front bumper needs repainting
-headlights need polishing
-of course all center caps and emblems are faded as heck

That's really about it.  Otherwise I think she will clean up pretty nicely. I'll have time this weekend to do a deep clean and polish.  Pics after!

Personally I think you got a good deal. Low miles AND the timing belt was just done as well as clutch (which is an extra). Since its a linear I would expect the price to be around that, if it was an aero I would have expected to see around 6-7k.

Agree with svecchi, that sounds like a good deal for a 'low' miles (for the age of these cars) example of a manual Linear -especially with the recent service items.

Front bumper - All saabaru front bumpers could probably use a respray at this point with rock dings and the like
headlights - can look brand new with a professional polish - after which get them protected with some clear-bra or Lamin-x
center caps/emblems - easy ebay replacement or just stickers to go over the stock ones.

Congrats on the purchase

Congrats!

As for the bumper, you can get a repaint for $200-300.

Headlights, I used the 3M 39008 headlight restoration kit and Blue Magic 730-6 headlight sealer.  Made the headlights look brand new and didn't take much time at all.

For the center caps, I just took the old stickers off the original caps and put new ebay ones on with a black background.  I also painted them black first so that none of the gray/tan plastic didn't show.

Re: 2005 9-2x Linear - New owner checking in

I never did anything to my center caps, and they stayed very nice for my entire ownership of the car. The hood and trunk emblems both flaked off, and were replaced with either new OEM (hood) or aftermarket (hatch). For the aftermarket ones, there are plenty to choose from online, just go with a reputable seller.

I think that with a new clutch and the timing belt done recently, that $4500 is actually a great price for a solid car. You haven't listed your location, but if north of the Mason-Dixon, begin making plans for rust repairs

Re: 2005 9-2x Linear - New owner checking in

I'm in the Atlanta metro area, so not really in a high rust area.   I can't find a speck of rust anywhere on the car, and I checked all the usual spots.  Rear quarters, strut towers, hatch, etc.  Previous owner was an Atlanta resident too, and all service records were done in the local area.

I'll post some pics this weekend after I get it cleaned up.  The dealer I bought it from had it parked under a pine tree in the corner of the parking lot, so it needs a good cleaning.  I have found a few hail dings that I had not noticed before, but no big deal.  They are on the hood, none on the roof, oddly enough.  Maybe the roof is a little thicker metal.  On a 13 year old car, a few dongs don't bother me one bit.

My plan for the bumper and headlights is to remove the bumper and refinish it myself.  I've done this before on other cars and have done a better than acceptable job with it.  While the bumper is off, Headlights will get polished as well.

I've already ordered the eBay center caps, as well as a set of the hood/hatch decals from the seller in Portugal.  Also have ordered a double din head unit and new speakers.  Stock system leaves much to be desired.

The service things I don't have a record for are the coolant and the trans lube.  I'll likely go to a Subie independent shop to do the coolant flush and refill, since I know coolant and heads are a "must get right" on these cars.  Trans lube I may do myself.  Oil was changed at 71K with the timing belt, so I'll get into my usual "every 5K miles" change pattern at 75K.  I like to get my change schedule coordinated with the odometer reading.  Easy to keep up with once my cadence becomes 80K, 85K, 90K, etc.

Does it still have the stock radiator?  Most of these cars end up needing a radiator replacement since the original unit is prone to cracking.  If it hasn't been replaced, I would look into putting one in or possibly upgrading to a metal one.
