So my mechanic is just finishing up my swap of a JDM ej205 into my '05 saabaru. Everything seems to be going well except...... It's still throwing a code that he can't figure out a reason for, and I haven't found the reason anywhere. The code is p1491 positive crankcase ventilation (blow-by) function problem.
Any help is appreciated!

I with you could @rodman and he would get a notification. A couple other boards I'm on have that now. It's nice when someone replies to a post.

Hey I replied to your post on Nasioc, if that was you with p1491.
That code has to get disabled at the ecu via your engine management. Your tuner will turn it off.
What ecu are you going to run the car on, USDM ? What engine management ?
Are you running on a complete jdm long block or did your mechanic swap components from original motor ?
You are probably running on the usdm ecu, the jdm motor has a simpler system, on a jdm ecu that code doesn't show up.
If your mechanic swapped the intake manifold and intake manifold harness, adding the original turbo inlet will allow you to plug in at that grey plug.

Yeah that was me on nasioc! Its on a USDM ecu at the moment, but I have a JDM one to swap in (and wire AVCS), and then I'll be getting it open source tuned. The mechanic swapped some parts from the USDM engine, but not the manifold (just some accessories like the alternator and a/c).

I see, just have the tuner disable that code on the ecu.
Does your JDM EJ205 have TGV ?

if your mechanic dropped in the entire engine with manifold and wiring, and you're now running the JDM intake manifold wiring harness, then you are probably missing the PCV connector (some type of sensor I guess?), because the earlier models didn't use them.
if your mechanic ONLY swapped in the main engine longblock and kept all your stock manifold/sensors/wiring, then it could be a sign you need to replace the PCV assembly, or maybe that connector was left unplugged accidentally?
this is what the assembly looks like (random photo, probably not the right part number) and you can see the connector in white

I dont have anything to add, but I do have a question on this exact subject. I have a 2006 Saab 9-2X 2.5i. I'm also new to tuning and want to drop a 2.0L EJ207 from a 2005 Saab 92x Aero.
What extra steps, parts, and tunes would I need? I'm also going to be needing a new exhaust system for it, I believe. Anything helps at this point because I'm looking everywhere I can for all the parts, tubing, software and shops.

Sell the car Ben, buy a Aero, the swap you are talking about is epic.
