You are correct, sir!  I pulled the trigger on a 2014 Leaf with 35k miles on it.

Right on! You posted on April 1st and my insta feed was filled with all those stupid 'I'm selling my car' fake posts unamused so wasn't 100% yours was for real. Congrats on the quick replacement then.

I'd be interested to see what you experience with the Leaf ownership and how things progress for you in terms of actual range or things that come up. I found when half looking into EVs there's so much to learn in terms of reprogramming your mind to think kilowatts, how best to charge/maintain the battery life, calculating costs, etc.

yeah,  my avg this weekend was 6.8 mi/ kw.... so that is new.  There are lots of things on the car to help manage battery life en route.  It lets you know how much the heat or ac will affect range.  I can drive in B mode (which I am already fond of) for more aggressive regeneration without braking.  Not quite 1 pedal driving, but close.

I would also look at a replacement battery if they offer one with more range in the future.  At the moment, the difference between the 24kwh battery i have and the 30 kwh battery in the '16/ 17 is not enough to drop 5k for a new one. The 2018 leaf is supposed to have over 200 mile range.  If that battery is compatible with mine, I would go for it.  That capacity would make a trip to Cincinnati or Cleveland doable.

B/C you have to deal with insurance.  Once I found out it would be too much $$ to fix, I wanted to off load it asap.  Fucking depressing to see my car of 9 years wrecked out front.  alot of memories there.

Listed is on CL and had 6 calls in 3 hours...  Tow truck just hauled it off.

Also, on the new car, I had just shopped for cars last year for the wife.  I pretty much knew what I could get in my price range.  I could have gone up in the 25k range, but I decided to go the frugal route and keep it under 12k.  TBH, I would have loved to have the TSX wagon after sitting in one.  Why can't honda sell a fucking accord wagon here?.  I also looked at a 2011 E350 wagon and a V60.  Them's purdy too.  The idea of free gas, maintenance free vehicle, and saving up for a Tesla 3 were all factors in my decision. I wasn't planning on buying a car when I went to the dealer, but there was a guy from KY coming up to see the same car.  I didn't want the blue one, so I bought the white one on the spot.  Dude from KY glared at me as I pulled out of the lot... he was looking at the blue one.  lol

I just couldn't drive a car this color:

http://insideevs.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/i.jpg

Now the blue is a nice deep blue, and I'd be all over that.  EV tech will be completly different in 5 years.  With the invention of Lithium glass batteries, and the possibility of sodium glass batteries, we could be seeing capacity reach tremendous limits and charging time reduce to under an hour.

one good article on emerging batt. tech.

Nice move!  You'll love driving electric.  It never really bothered me pumping gas until I stopped having to.  It pisses me off now when I have to put gas into my wife's car and my own (once every few months).

Re: Saad day...

arrow-up

Yup.  And, cheaper examples can be had.  I would avoid anything pre 2013, there were some weird things they worked out in that model year.  Also, make sure you get one with the 6.6kw charger and the DC fast charger.  The 6.6 gives you 4 hr charges on a level 2 versus 8 hrs with the 3.3kw charge port.  DC quick charger will give you 80% in 30 minutes.  I'm not going to lie, the fancy stuff on the SL w/ premium is pretty damn nice.  Bose sound with Wave.  360 degree camera. leather.  I'm digging it compared to the sparse equipment in the 2005 Linear.  I don't miss a sunroof.  I hardly ever used it.

There's a lot of info out there.  Some true, some not true, but read up before going to buy one and know what you want on it. Don't trust a dealer to know WTF they're talking about.  My dealer had a Leaf Specialist, that helped some.

Re: Saad day...

Also haven't had a claim come in from the dude I hit... He was Somali and sounded like he may have been new-ish to the US.  He really didn't seem to care about his car at the time it happened, maybe he won't get it fixed. IDK what the standard of car appearance is in other countries.

Re: Saad day...

Assuming he is from Somalia (one of the six previously banned countries), he's probably laying as low as possible for fear of deportation.  And really, looking at that picture, it looks like his damage is seriously minimal.  Did you report it to your carrier?

Re: Saad day...

Well, no claim was ever filed.  So that's nice.  How much I spend on transportation is also nice.  This is my "gas" bill from June, which would have been about $60 in gas. It goes without saying, but it's also really nice to not go to the gas station any more

Re: Saad day...

Not to nit pick, but I assume the cost would be a little more since that value is calculating the amount of electricity the car generated while driving. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) Still awesome by comparison though.

So the Total Electricity Use - 98.7 kW is the amount I pulled from the tap, or he actual cost paid. Some of this was free though charging at work and free public charging, so my cost is even lower... maybe a buck.

Total energy includes that which is (re)generated through braking and/ or driving in "B Mode" which is an aggressive regeneration mode that relies less on breaking and re-gen kicks in when you lift off the accelerator.

Interesting - that's cool to see some more commitment from a brand I dig going in to the electric world in a more meaningful way.

There's also still quite a few at the other end who are completely dragging their feet getting into electrics which I figured would be all for it, like Toyota and Mazda. I read the Toyota CEO has expressed a disdain for electric motors and how they drive, and that though Mazda will be rolling out an EV before 2020 at this point it's really just to meet the CA compliance for EVs.
