Re: So now that my Saabaru has been retired

Someone tell me why I shouldn't buy this. Scheduled a test drive for Tuesday. VAG experts please chime in.

Would not touch without a damn good 100k warranty.  Had a 2.0 TSI that was wonderful except for reliability starting at 38k.  Intake manifold, water pump and 6 coils all replaced under warranty.  None of the issues were flukes in the VW community.

Re: So now that my Saabaru has been retired

yeah, pre 2014 VW's had their issues for sure. They seemed to have improved reliability after 2014. Plus, mileage seems a bit steep.

I'm not sure if you're implying that they're selling them back due to reliability issues, but a lot of people are selling them back because they're getting a ton of money from VW by doing it.  If that wasn't the intent, please disregard.

Good to know. Originally I wasn't worried about miles because I generally drive cars until they are dead, and I have squeezed as much usefulness as possible out of them. I just did the math I averaged 13.5K/year on the Saab over the last 9.5 years. Bought it with 52K crashed it with 181K. Still waiting on some info from the insurance company.

Re: So now that my Saabaru has been retired

Drove the R today. I like it. Snappy, and quick. Less leg and trunk room than the Saab. I have a contact at a local Subie shop, I will stop by there on my way home to see what kind of deals they have.

While I was waiting for the salesman at Carmax I was looking around at other vehicles. Too bad I am not in the market for an SUV. They had 2 "14 Caddy SRX with 34K miles for $22K.

I don't think they know yet what they're going to do with all of them.  IIRC it's a small number of them may be easy to retrofit and may be sold again in the US, but most will be either scrapped or sold overseas... or Trump will repeal all environmental regulations and they'll just be put back into circulation with no modification.

This is kinda what I was thinking haha.  And he will claim it as some way of saving Americans millions on used cars or something.

Obviously timing wise, this is all a moot point to the OP but alas...

biggrin  rolls out "Clunkers for Cash", where you get to deduct the purchase of low MPG vehicles to stimulate the oil economy.  Emissions checks that fail if you're too clean.

Re: So now that my Saabaru has been retired

I finally answered the phone yesterday when the VW dealer called again. he asked what I thought of the Altrack, I told him I hated it, I'm looking for a 5 door hatch, I'm looking used, and I really want a Golf R. He replied that he hasn't seen too many used Golf Rs for sale. A few minutes later he sends me an email with a link to a  2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class 4dr Sdn C300 Sport 4MATIC with 22K miles.  facepalm

No, he is retiring in 10 days and going on a North America Rally tour. Celebrating his 30th of rally racing.
