molybdenum is an additive for many motor oils.  As for what to put in your car, stick with what's on the cap, 5-w30, unless you are deep into the mods.  Most will just advise to stay away from Mobile 1 due to how it acts once at temp.  Otherwise, just let your car tell you what it likes.  If one oil leads to over a quart of consumption then try another.  Maybe the engine sounds quieter with one type over another...

Can confirm that Mobil 1 is less than ideal in this engine. I had heavy oil consumption when using it.  Personally, I found that using AMSOIL worked quite well for me and pretty much solved the heavy oil consumption problem for me.  It worked well and seemed to warm quickly even during "cold" (10F) here in the South.  That being said, I'm sure there are plenty of other (probably cheaper) options. Best of luck.

For non-turbo engines, whichever name brand 5W-30 is on sale should get the job done. Our Saabaru is mostly a winter car, only gets driven 4-5K miles a year.
Rotella T6 5W-40 is popular with turbo Subies, it's cheap for a synthetic and doesn't shear (unlike M1 5W-30). In my 2005 LGT I run T6 5W-40 summer/fall, M1 0W-40 in winter/spring. Both did well in oil testing, neither oil sheared.

I have used rotella t6 in my aero since I bought and it has definitely served me well. I'm into the "new" reformulated stuff now and can't notice a difference. I think I'll be a loyal rotella user for life.

Liqui-moly is an excellent oil.  I would keep on using it.

Search this site for the words German Castrol.
This is what I said a few years ago:
"If you trade-in the car every 3-5 years, or even 7 years, using German Castrol or MoS2 is pointless for you and a waste of $.  If you've been using them it'll be of benefit to the next owner.
Starting to use high mileage oil when the engine reaches high mileage is foolish, in my humble opinion.  It falls in the "too little, too late" category.
If you plan on keeping a car to a high mileage point and beyond you've got to start taking care of things early.
If you plan on keeping the car 10 years or more and put 15K-20K per year then using the above will help."

I actually found some Rotella T6 5W-40 with the old label in Home Depot. Didn't know they sold Rotella at Home Depot.

The local Subaru dealership is owned by a guy who owns a Subaru race car and helps several rally and track teams. While speaking with him at an autocross event, he said he only uses Amsoil or Castrol. He also mentioned that one of the Castrol oils was built in cooperation with Subaru? I have only used Amsoil Signature 5w-30 and have no oil burning issues.
