Goob builds a house

After close to 5 years we are finally building our new house we designed.  Thought some you guys would like to watch her go up.

We originally bought the house to fix up and live in...well after a few months it was becoming too costly and we also found out kiddo #1 was on his way.  Now we just welcomed kiddo #2

Re: Goob builds a house

That garage is mammoth, really interested to see how it looks when built.  Will there be living space above the garage or a loft for storage? I hope room for a lift is in the plans. Love the size.

Re: Goob builds a house

Yes there is a loft over the garage bay closest to the house.  That leaves garge bat #1 open to the roof incase I get a lift.  The 3rd garge bay are in the back will house my 72 & 73 240z  up

The lift is a must IMO, not much money and adds so much to functionality. If you think you'd prefer a two post you'd be best to plan for that now, ideally thicker concrete pours for the posts. Four post doesn't really require special concrete, a decent material and 4" pour will do. Both want 220v.

Four post with trolley jacks FTW IMO. Even more storage.  banana

Re: Goob builds a house

Wowza, that looks like some exciting progress! Congrats! Speaking from experience .... LIFT! LIFT! LIFT! Also, one with posts on either end is probably more usable than a center post like ours.

A) all our cars that regularly use the lift (my saabaru, the charger, and my dad's MGB) all need handicapped ramps to prevent scraping on the lift while driving over
B) nothing in the way when working on things in the middle of the car, like the downpipe-catback connection  banghead

That being said, a lift is a lift and no matter the inconvenience it's awesome to have! I echo what Skorp says, love the design.

Maxjax is a compromise solution for people working within existing limitations: they need the lift to move out of the way and have low ceilings. Anything from Bendpak will do you well, an HD9ST four poster with RJ45 trolley jacks is awesome. I now have a MD6XP because my ceilings are too low, it's way better than a Maxjax but far short of a real lift. If I were building new I'd get one of their in ground units, nothing in the way and oh so slick.

Re: Goob builds a house

arrow-up that's my point, sounds like the bay you're putting the lift in has a high ceiling, so why not get a lift that can use that space?
