No offense meant to rodman, but Ian are you really sure you want ebay coils? I would wager a bet that your stock struts with lowering springs ride better and are safer. IMO save your money for something that's actually going to last and have good performance.

And if they fail catastrophically (as these kind often do) and you crash, you can put that saved money towards repairs. Done deal!

Lol. Can you provide thread showing said rampant failure? Everyone is quick to hate on the cheap stuff but for a 1k/month daily that doesn't see a track, is impending failure such a reality?

My roommate in college basically only ran Nexen POS tires on his expensive cars, did not die.

If you use a chinese ebay turbo and blow your motor, you probably won't die. It's dumb, but you won't die. If you use cheaply made suspension components and put more load on them than the weakest, cheapest part of them can withstand, whether going over a pothole, highway expansion joint, or under hard driving and something fails, you just might.
Everyone, even the advocates of the cheap stuff, agree the ride quality is atrocious. The consensus is they're good for slamming a car on its face. Not for driving normally in comfort, not for driving quickly with confidence, not for achieving a nice, functional suspension. The failures tend to come when they get pushed. Some people will defend them to the death because they enjoy dragging their chin along the ground.

From what I've read in a short stint of research they're made the same place as BC and a couple others. Also, the first page of google searching 'Emusa coilover failure' pulls up diddly squat. Can you share a story or actual thread of someone saying that? There's lots of forum bandwagon hate for cheap coils, I just am interested in finding some first hand experience with them.

All I can say is you have a sick car with lots of nice parts, so I don't see why you'd skimp on such an important part.
You're a pretty chill guy so I'd rather you didn't die before or during our next canyon run.

I will not be purchasing le coilovers. Not due to interwebz doom and gloom, but just legit have other things I should be spending my $$ on. The wife and I are about to book travel to the Caribbean for our 10 year anniversary so when she asks me why I’d rather put $200 towards coilovers I don’t need vs. an additional night on vacation, replying with ‘cuz I need moar low so I can kill the game’ doesn’t quite cut it. Hahaha.
Still an interesting conversation on le coilovers – I’ve yet to find substantial proof that these ebay coils are failing and killing people left and right. A saabaru friend I know locally has ran these coilovers before and thought they rode better than BCs that he owned, and he is also not dead. More first hand experience is needed on these vs. bandwagon hate just cuz they’re cheap.
I wish Doug the best of luck with selling them, I’m sure there’s a suicidal buyer out there who values stance moar than their life.

Not much to show for today, removed the prop shaft, removed all bolts holding the emergency brake cable brackets and disconnected said cables from the emergency brake handle. Still have to get the emergency brake cable out and do a lot of cleaning under the car. Test fitted the 04 STi knuckle/hubs with my version 7 cv axles just to be sure I have the correct parts. The test fit went well but I'm going to have to fix the shields, they got badly bent in transit.

Can you just take the shields off? They always made noise on my car after brake work, was fucking annoying as hell til you get them bent back the right way.

You are right, my gray car also made noise when pushed into turns from the brake rotor touching the shields. Nick at KNS Brakes suggested the same thing, I may just do that. Probably a lot easier than straightening them and end up with that noise.
Decision made, I'm just going to remove them, thanks man.

Wow isn't timing grand. haha Mine has been making noise when I have been pushing it in the turns. Well glad I have everything scheduled to work on this next week with rotors and pads.
Aero Winter Beater Offline
The slow progress continues, separated the 6 speed transmission from the STi motor, not a fun job. 
Installed a Cobb up pipe.
Installed a Mishimoto bypass valve hose, thanks Ian
Installed a new oem thermostat.
Separating the transmission without help was time consuming and a pain in the balls.
Have to clean the engine bay and under the car, the previous owner must have gone for a muddy off-road excursion at some point.
Once the cleaning is done and the rear end is all back together I'm sending the car to a body shop. It has a small amount of frame damage on the passenger side.
