Re: The other ST thread, Fiesta STs

Is the official best Fiesta ST thread?  Hammy?

I bought one yesterday.  It has problems.

I hope I can fix it.

Sweet. How much did MettleFiST cost you in its current state? Per the auction website, it sounds like they assumed it would run $15k to fix it up- what are you budgeting?

Re: The other ST thread, Fiesta STs

With all the Copart fees, a broker fee, and some other BS fees, it was $2500

The car could be junk - I'm hoping to get it street legal for $2k, then maybe recover $750-$1200 of those two outlays by selling parts from the car.

My family has a towing business, so supposedly my brother is fetching it next Monday.  I can do a lot of stripping down to see what's broken...probaly have to find another donor car to fix it.

That's not too bad for what has such potential.

Re: The other ST thread, Fiesta STs

I'm probably super wrong on my costs and am just deluding myself.

If I need front end stuff, I'm going to try to get a rear hit Sedan since they're all so ugly they deserve to be sawzalled up.

This one definitely has a shredded intercooler - but I kind of wonder if a top mount or something more custom would be better for rally.

Can't wait to get into the project. It's far less intimidating having access to the dealer workshop manual through work, but I also know I have real technical problems coming my way when it comes to handling the stability control and the like.

Re: The other ST thread, Fiesta STs

Do you know if the engine runs, if there's frame damage, etc. or is it just a complete gamble?

I have no facts - kind of a gamble.  I'm getting too old to sit around wishing I had done a nicer car than my old Jetta.

You can fix anything with time, money, and parts. What you really should do though is buy one that got smacked in the back, sawzall both cars, and JB Weld the front of the other car onto the one that's smacked up in the front.  star  banana

I'm pretty sure this gets done from time to time with actual welding.

Re: The other ST thread, Fiesta STs

Brother finally got to work this weekend and drug the car inside

Somehow it got a broken tail light sitting in the parking lot.

This side took the worst of the damage.  Broke tie rod in there somewhere, too.

A few hours of taking off the old broken crap and it's looking a lot better to me.

I was behind a yellow ST last night on my way home. I saw it too late and couldn't get a picture at the stop light, but the plate read SPUL BUS

Pretty embarrassing how slow this has gone.  l car spent last winter in my garage getting the body work we paid someone to do corrected enough that the headlights would fit on the car.

I got a cage kit this summer, but was working around recovering from breaking my leg.

Re: The other ST thread, Fiesta STs

I enjoy mine. Ended up keeping the Saabaru (though financially that is probably a very poor choice) and am dailying it during the winter. A lot of little things feel a bit less refined on the FiST (steering wheel, shift action) but overall, it's a substantially similar vehicle- which just goes to show how cars have and haven't progressed over the years, and also shows how little luxury GM added to create Saab's entry level vehicle.

If you do buy new, be sure to sign up for the ST Octane Academy in Tooele, UT. It was a blast!

Starting to dig parts out of storage to see what I've lost or am otherwise missing.  The cage still needs some bits added to it, and to get a sign off, but the heavy lifting there is all done.

My brother came into town last weekend and we did this test fit up, organized the garage and did some infrastructure work to help the rest of the build go a bit smoother, but it's definitely feeling like we're turning a corner.
