Re: Beach's '05 Aero Thread

New fender, new headlight, new bumper cover. Hood looks salvageable from the pics. Can't see much damage to it and it still looks like its lined up fairly well which might be the only saving grace as that will likely be the hardest part to replace. If you want it done quickly you'll have to be proactive about it and help the insurance company find the parts. Leave it up to them and you'll be waiting months. This is coming from first hand experience. Guy backed into me in the parking lot of a bar in a lifted truck with a hitch....and then ran. Sorry man.

Re: Beach's '05 Aero Thread

Ya from the pics I'd say the hood is definitely salvagable. My alignment was worse than that and they were able to repair it. The bumper may be salvagable too? A body shop would have to determine but the alignment of the bumper seems fine from what the pictures show and it's just that scratch/dent next to the headlight. That'd help if they can save that. Here's what my car looked like before I bought it when it was a poor lonely salvage title car up for Auction in Texas. ha.

Color looks nice, though I preferred the teal better.  Just watch the For Sale threads.  Some new part-outs are popping up every once in a while.

Re: Beach's '05 Aero Thread

Update:

Car has been totaled by insurance. I bought it back and is currently the wife's daily. I bought a c6 for my new daily. Got Sick and tired of driving a no power auto.

I'll post pics of the red aluminum wrap when I get a little free time. It really is beautiful in person. Camera phone cannot capture what the true color and effect this vinyl has. It's wild, but tasteful.

Re: Beach's '05 Aero Thread

Were you able to save the bumper with the busted tabs?  What did the cost come out to for repairs.  I ask because I'm surprised the insurance totaled it.  Maybe it was the $900 HID cost smile

Re: Beach's '05 Aero Thread

It'snotmeitsyou - bumper is definitely salvageable. I've been driving it ever since the accident without issue. I will be getting it repaired by a buddy when I can find a fender and headlight replacement. Haven't done much searching to be honest as c6 has taken up extra funds trying to make it look the way I want it smile
Cost of repairs were 3k with fender, bumper cover, and headlamp replaced. That alone was enough to total it being that parts are too difficult to find, says appraiser. My wrap is insured to the tune of 3k as well which brought repairs to 6k lol.

I just took the salvaged title and gave them 1500 buy back. So basically, I got the car for 3500 total with the payments I put into it. Not a bad deal.

In comes c6, and I'm all smiles smile

Re: Beach's '05 Aero Thread

Been a year since I've posted in this thread... Wow, time flies!

Update:

The old lady is still daily'ing the saabaru and it still isn't repaired. I'm going to be purchasing new parts for it some time in the near future and rewrap it a new color. I've just been so busy lately and have had extreme difficulty trying to find the time to get this car back to where I want it to be. Recently did fluids etc. and I'm just sick of seeing this car in the condition it is in!

Anyway, I have a question for all my friends on here...

After looking on http://www.oemsaabparts.com/ - I've put together a list of what I need to purchase:

1.) Front Bumper cover - List Price : $285.31  Your Price : $256.78

2.)  Center grille - List Price : $196.73 Your Price : $177.06

3.)  Outer grille Left & Right - List Price : $64.89  Your Price : $58.40 ($116.80 for the pair)

4.) Combo lamp assy Right - List Price : $1162.00 Your Price : $1045.80   sad

OR

Combo lamp assy Right & Left - List Price : $387.92 Your Price : $349.13  (~$700 for the pair)

Being that the NEW pass. side headlamp is going to run me $1k... I'm really considering listing the driver's side for sale and just buying the set of halogen projectors instead. So my question is, can I just pop in some non-HID lamps in place of the HIDs I have on the car already? Or will I run into wiring issues etc.? I'm not very mechanically inclined and my knowledge about cars is elementary.  facepalm

Here is the Driver's side HID lamp as of today... Still in great condition. Any ideas what a used lamp in this condition would fetch on the used market?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. I'm going to work on getting some pictures uploaded of the Matte Red Aluminum wrap before it was wrecked!

Check the for sales here and ebay/junkyards for that headlight man.  They do pop up and if you'd been looking during this whole time you would already have some  tongue

Re: Beach's '05 Aero Thread

On the 05 both the HID and non-HID assemblies use the same large single connector, so you should be able to plug in the non-HID assemblies into your car without any issues.

If you wanted to convert the new ones to HIDs that could be done as well, but not being mechanically inclined it sounds like that's more effort than you're up for.

But generally agree with itsnotmeitsyou here, if you're patient and diligent you'll find what you're looking for second hand.

Simple. I just called my insurance and had them add my wrap as an exterior modification. 6 month premium went up a few bucks. Piece of cake

Cool, I've never heard of that!  Out of curiosity, how much would it actually cost for a professional wrap job?  I didn't think it was anywhere near $3k.

Depending on the car, I charge $3k+. Wraps can be had for a low as a grand though, maybe less.

Yikes! Even at 3k, that is hardly a low-end paint job lol. I understand that many have only ever been exposed to maaco quality, so your comment doesn't exactly surprise me... A buddy of mine was going to have a good friend paint his GTR, and 12k was the cost of a good deal. Another client who has become a good friend had his lambo repainted and the bill would make you poop yourself. Cost of paint and materials alone are EASILY 1k+... but the kicker is finding someone with enough skill, and a proven track record, to hand your keys to with no worries on ability to perform and deliver.

You get what you pay for, as always.
