I'm on the fence about this...I know a few "conspiracy theorists"  lol that follow the same thought process...

Airbags are designed to work under certain conditions and work very well in precisely defined events and scenarios. If just a few of those variables change, like the angle, force, or speed of impact, then (it is my opinion) the outcome may result with greater injury, than if they were not there.

Just like when seat belts first became mandatory and their use widely enforced, there were those "they kill more people than they save lives" folk. Granted, 1% of the time (made up statistic) someone got chocked out by their belt. With the alternative being flying through the windshield face first- I would prefer the choking.

Under ideal circumstances airbags work, and work well.

Now replace the word "airbag" with "pipe-bomb" in that sentence... Not so reassuring. I might go for the face-first ejection option...maybe the car I hit in front of me will lessen the trauma.  sad

Guess I'm driving even more defensively than I already do. Nothing like sitting in a ticking time bomb to quell any aggressive tendencies..,

Well the 92X is now listed on the NHTSA site:

http://www.nhtsa.gov/About+NHTSA/Press+ … ate-action

but the GM site isn't listing it when I lookup by VIN:

I'm being safe by still riding my motorcycle to work. Good thing I don't have a Goldwing.

Re: Killer Air Bags!!!!!! 2005 9-2x!

There have been a few members on this site who were in accidents where the airbags went off. Were there and issues with the airbags in those incidents?

The GM email suggested to not have front passengers, but those injured in Hondas were the drivers.  I see this as a gross attempt by GM to cut their liability by 50%.
I seriously doubt the 2006 has a different airbag from the 2005.

I will be parking my 92x in favor of my non-airbagged 1987 Supra until this gets straightened out.  It's obvious to me that the industry has -quite literally- gone into "stop the bleeding" mode.

Unplugging the seat airbag connectors will turn the "Airbag" light on.  I wonder if this disables the entire system?

You guys don't see this as overly fearful at all? Sure, there's a problem, and sure, it's serious.

Statistically, what are the odds that it will happen to you, given that you get in an accident?
Statistically, what are the odds that it will happen to you at all?

If you have other options, you can be cautious, but personally, if I had to drive the 9-2x, I'd keep the airbags engaged. The chances of serious injury due to a lack of airbag deployment are greater than the chance of serious injury due to shrapnel, if I'm allowed to talk out of my ass.

Calm your tits.

You're probably not going to crash, and even if you do, you're probably going to be fine.

Your options are:
a. Don't wear your seat belt - go face first through your windshield.  eek
b. Wear your seat belt and disable airbag - pray for no head-on-collisions  roll
c. Wear your seat belt and keep airbag active - inevitably get shrapnel to the face  star
d. Replace defective airbag and keep on  driving
e. None of the above - drive a modeysikul and  lol at everyone

Totally. I mean it might bruise my chest or choke me out! I'll take my chances flying through the windshield and hoping my cat like reflexes lands me on my feet.  star

I'm really nervous about my 06 - like someone else said, I doubt they use different airbags. Can anyone help me find the part numbers for the two years?

Re: Killer Air Bags!!!!!! 2005 9-2x!

I was just able to check my VIN, and it says "Currently, our website does not have recall information for your 2005 Saab 9-2X". I don't know if that means I'm not affected, or if GM doesn't know yet.

Try here if you can't get to the NHTSA site: https://recalls.gm.com/

With all due respect, you are talking out of your ass smile

They're called SRS for a reason:  Supplemental Restraint System.  Meaning, if you're wearing your seat belt they are -in theory- not necessary.  For the vast majority that do wear their seat belts, any risk created from the airbag is not worth it.

What we know about the Takata bags is that they degrade over time.  So the longer  we wait, the more likely it is to happen.  What are the percentages?  I doubt even Takata has a good handle on that.  What percentage chance are you willing to take that a bomb will go off in your face or in the face of whoever is sitting next to you?  GM has decided that it's too dangerous and is taking the expense to overnight letters to 92x owners.

My 92x is getting parked.

I haven't done any recalls on my 9-2x. Who services them now that Saab is gone? Does a GM dealer do it?

It looks like GM might step up to the plate on this one.  Seems like the ball was dropped on the control arm recall.

Toyota agrees with me and is disabling airbags:

usatoday wrote:

Toyota said in that it announcement that the Takata passenger airbags are so risky that it wants dealers to get their hands on any unfixed cars among those 247,000 Toyotas and Lexuses in high-humidity areas and either repair them or disable the passenger airbags if they don't have the parts immediately available to fix the problem.
