Copy the link, highlight it and click the YouTube button. Works most of the time. Sometimes you have to edit the link a bit.

Re: Beach's '05 Aero Thread

Nice video.  Also, thanks for your reply.  I'm beginning to see that if the OC lasts for two years I'd better make damn sure the paint is prepped perfectly, otherwise I'll be stuck looking at imperfections.

I've got the Menzerna super intense nano polish and the final finish II, and I typically only use the super intensive (with the RO PorterCable).  It yields the 90% finish that i'm happy enough with on my personal vehicles.  In this case if I were to use OC I feel like I'd take the extra step of the Final Finish II to ensure there's no ghosting, etc.

I asked specifically about the dish was soap to get a feel for just how durable the OC is.  After ~6 months with the Jet Seal it's relatively easy to remove with one thorough dish wash and that's when I start over on the protection.  Typically, this leads to polishing once every ~2 years to get it back up to snuff.  I surely do like the idea of only having to seal a car once every 2 years in contrast to every 6 months.

Does the Opti-Coat show swirl marks?  I'm not new to detailing but certainly am to things like Opti-coat.  Paint prep out-of-the-ordinary bad?  If I knew what to do I feel like I could accomplish it without having it fail.

What makes the CQuartz nano different from the Opti-Coat?

Much appreciate the info!  I'm coming up on doing this in the next few weeks.  I'd love to try some longer-lasting and better products.

My apologies for the late reply! Holiday stuffs keeping me busy busy busy!

Most definitely get your paint looking as good as you can before you apply any sort of coating because it'll seal it in for good!
I'm surprised you need Menz SIP for your paint! Usually these paint systems are so soft you can get away with a finishing polish and be set by just switching out to a more aggressive pad!? I've never heard the term 'ghosting', is that something similar to what others' may call micromarring from an aggressive pad or polish?

Good question asking about the dish soap! I feel I have a serious detailing Brother on this forum after reading your post!  up
The good thing about these coatings is not only the fact that protection last so long... it has many other advantages:

- Washing becomes a breeze
- Stays cleaner longer since there are no natural ingredients like oils, waxes etc that attract and hold onto dirt/dust
- There are much thicker than waxes/sealants... 100x thicker. so it's much more difficult to scratch through the coating and damage your paint
- Preserves the paint
- If you swirl the paint, it's actually swirling the coating, which means you can hang onto your factory clearcoat for much longer without having to compound/polish out defects from the clear
- These coatings harden and cure much harder than your factory clearcoat so it's much more difficult to swirl or scratch the paint

The list goes on but those are the main points to remember when considering a Coating opposed to a traditional wax or sealant!

Will Opti-Coat or even CQuartz last longer than 2 years? Most definitely, if maintained properly. However, people like you and I are most likely going to want to polish our cars sooner than the coating would degrade, which is the reason I suggested CQuartz. CQ is much easier to apply, looks glossier, and will last 2+ years.

Does the Opti-Coat show swirl marks?
Yes, it will. Like I said above, Coatings will greatly reduce the chance of swirling/scratching as they cure harder than factory clearcoats, BUT there are not "scratch-proof" they are 'scratch-resistant'! So be sure to continue using proper wash techniques etc and you'll be more than fine!

What makes the CQuartz nano different from the Opti-Coat?
CQuartz is different from Opti-Coat because it is considered a 'glass coating' which contains a high percentage of Silica. This coating is considered to be 'Semi-Permanent'. Whereas Opti-Coat is a Ceramic Resin type coating that 'Permanently' bonds and cannot be removed with abrasion or chemical removers.

Check out the links in my write-up to visit their sites and learn more about each product!

Also, let me know if you'd like to order some products as I have accounts with these companies and can probably save you some dough.

After reading a bunch of comparisons and doing some general research.  I think your recommendation about the CQuartz is a very good fit for me.

Good read here  http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/pro … uartz.html

PM'd you a couple more thoughts.

Thanks so much

The main reason behind this photo shoot was to get some legitimate photos taken of the car wearing Lagoon Blue Matte Metallic before she goes under the knife for a color change. I absolutely love Lagoon Blue and it will surely be missed... But it's time for a fresh look! So stay tuned in the coming weeks!

Riding high is not so bad.  I wish I had not lowered my ride due to city speed bumps and winter driving. So so low is just a fad and a look that is dated as hell if you ask me. The lineage of this car is rally, not lemans.

I'm really disappointed that I lowered mine, and sold my stock struts. I want to go back to stock or a hair higher.

great color, but what is next?

Good thing nobody suggested slamming it then.   biggrin

It seems like this car is used at least in part to advertise his business, which is cosmetics oriented, so a bit of a lowering is right in line with that.  A car that is driven on the road and tends to appeal to people who push their car, is a car that will always look good with a tasteful lowering. Nothing faddy about it. up

Practicalities should obviously take priority though, and I'm in the same boat.  embeer

Besides, being a road car with rally heritage does not automatically mean it should sit high:

Glad you enjoy smile Thank You

Phillipj - Thanks! I'm going with a Red next... that is all I will say big_smile BUT when I rewrap, I will surely post new pics!

Hammyt - lol

Kornfeld - I would love to lower a pinch, but it is certainly not a smart move at this point. How much more uncomfortable are these cars with a drop? My back kills me as it is sad

Aeronh - No convincing on body color door handles! Too much color on the sides to not break it up a bit with black handles IMO

A real bummer it is man. I'm the second owner, just hit 60k miles, 2 month old wrap, no prior accidents, has 2 minor door dings lol etc etc. Now it's all tainted. I'm super ocd too, and my experience with body shops have not been pleasant to put it politely.

Is the replacement parts market for these cars non existent? I could've sworn I read somewhere that they are a bitch to source. Fender is F'd, headlight shattered, hood slightly bent, bumper damaged. I swear it hit it just perfectly to fuck everything up!
