Re: What other cars did you consider before buying your 9-2X?

My story:
I wasn't in the market at all.  My wife and I both work from home (mostly) and already had three cars, but really the Yukon is the only real "driver".  My neighbor sells Saabs and brought a 9-2x home one night and the more I looked the more I liked.  I turned in my leased Saab about 4 months ago and been driving my 25 year old Porsche with <25K miles.  The 9-2 allows me to keep some of the stupid miles off my 930...  now, all the miles I put on her are fun miles.big_smile

I actually *bought* a 2003 Jetta GLS. Nice nice car, but for a few thousand more I could get a new car. A no-brainer if you ask me, particularly since I'm looking at getting nearly what I paid for it.

I was considering, in no particular order (or sane mode of thought), a Saturn, Pontiac Vibe / Toyota Matrix, Chevy Cobalt, Jeep or maybe a Mustang.  Was passing by a Saab dealer one day and went to look at the 92X.  Of all the cars we saw we liked the 92X best, not to mention the service was better at the Saab dealer than anywhere else....as well as the deal smile

1. Mazda 3 5-door
2. Toyota Matrix
3. Scion xB
4. Toyota Corolla S

For me it came down to the GM employee discount incentive.  Even though I bought a base Linear with no options, it came with more standard features than any of the four that I was considering.  Being a Saab it allowed me to purchase the vehicle at an upscale dealership (Motorwerks, Barrington IL).  Best dealership and purchase experience I have ever had.

Re: What other cars did you consider before buying your 9-2X?

'05 Mustang. Was NOT impressed. On top of that the sales guy was a sleazebag, asking crap like where I worked and lived. Compared to the ford dealer, Saab was miles above in salesmanship, at least in my experience.

I wasn't exactly in the market for a car either, but I just couldn't pass up the deal. I'm fresh out of college, and was driving a '95 camry before this...so definately a big step up smile First new car, and first manual tranny at that....and its just a blast to drive.

Re: What other cars did you consider before buying your 9-2X?

Nothing out there is exactly what I wanted.  I ideally wanted 4 doors, a hatch, cheap and something that was fast and cornered well.  Oh, also either RWD of AWD was prefered.

1)  Legacy GT (May be better than the 9-2 overall in a lot of ways but not worth the extra cash)

Others that I considered but just didn't meet my criteria or that were not out yet:

Forester XT
SRT-4
Mustang GT
06 WRX
Mazdaspeed 3
RX-8
GTO

All of them were too expensive (except the SRT) and when I saw that the 9-2 could be had for under $20,000 I jumped on it!

I am also very happy that with a TBE and a AP, I will have a mid 13 sec car that should trap at 100 mph.  Then again, I doubt I will ever run it hard at the track... maybe go soft and shoot for a good trap speed and figure from that what it could do.  I just don't want to mess up the trans.

Overall, the 9-2 was a win win for me!  banana

Re: What other cars did you consider before buying your 9-2X?

Forester XT
WRX wagon
Magnum
Legacy GT Wagon

My criteria were that it had to be a wagon and AWD so my choices were limited.

Re: What other cars did you consider before buying your 9-2X?

This was the list. 9-2X was obviously on it as well.
Evo
STi
WRX
9-2X

Wanted AWD because of my location and the fact that I routinely travel through mountain passes in the winter. I checked insurance costs , and here's the list highest to lowest: STi, Evo, WRX, SRT-4, 9-2X . Yeah , the SAAB was literally the cheapest out of all those choices, even the SRT-4 which I threw in there just for the heck of it.

Those factors coupled with the fact that I'd always said I liked the look of the 9-2X over the WRX but just thought it was too expensive.
Now with the GM Discount, and the fact that it was much cheaper insurance wise, I was sold.
