AC Causes weird throttle response?

Once in awhile, with the AC on my gas pedal will start making a loud crazy sound and vibrate like crazy. If I turn the AC off, it stops. How is the AC ( maybe a bad compressor clutch?) reacting with the gas pedal like this?

Re: AC Causes weird throttle response?

Your AC system is likely putting an unreasonable strain on the engine, I'd put money on the lower pulley (the adjustable one) being seized or close to it as the bearings like to give up.

Re: AC Causes weird throttle response?

Still haven’t resolved this issue… just haven’t been using the AC. Then I found a thread on NASIOC, where a few others had this issue. One guy found that there are a few clips holding the throttle cable up and one had broken, allowing the throttle cable to come in contact with the AC compressor pulley. Makes sense. Anybody else experience that?

Re: AC Causes weird throttle response?

That was it! Just went out and checked. The throttle cable runs horizontally behind the radiator and is held up by plastic clips. If they fail, the cable sinks right down against the AC pulley. Mine had shredded the rubber casing off the throttle… lucky the metal cable itself hasn’t been compromised yet. SOLVED!
