3 Cluster Gauges

I am looking to add a 3 cluster gauge housing to my 9-2.  Does any one have a recommendation of a universal housing either on the dash or the pillar?

Re: 3 Cluster Gauges

When I was looking at this I mocked up a pillar mount setup and found that it hurt my eyes to transition from something that close to the road.  The pod that takes the place of the clock was much better suited for what I needed.

Re: 3 Cluster Gauges

Clock replacement seems to be the least obnoxious option though with bigger gauges it still ends up being a big structure. If you can manage with two gauges the SMY unit that replaces the gauge cluster surround is great, though it's a bit tricky tucking all the wires in.

Re: 3 Cluster Gauges

I know you stated a 3-gauge cluster, but the 2-gauge SMY bezel snowphun mentioned has been great:

I didn’t want the pillar mount or to replace the clock with the oversized cluster. I’d like to find something to replace the clock with (radar detector?) but want to keep the dash OEM/unobstructed.

Re: 3 Cluster Gauges

If you do small gauges (Lamco size) you can do a single-din 3-gauge pack at the top of the dash instead of the clock, there is an OEM part for this, though its discontinued (or you can put it down by the radio)
If you do larger gauges, there are multiple brands of 3-gauge housings that replace the clock part of the top of the dash, like ATI
or you could do a-pillar gauges, though i think most people's preference is that those are very tacky

Re: 3 Cluster Gauges

Awesome Thank you for all the feedback. Decided to hold off for now. Had an oil cooler installed a while ago and the oil temp was my main concern . My mechanic feels that the temp stock gauge should be sufficient. Plus it was looking like a project that could cost over 2K when all said and done.

Thanks again.

Re: 3 Cluster Gauges

The Aero comes with an oil cooler as standard - it is a water to air cooler that utilizes the coolant circulating around the oil filter housing. The car also utilizes passive, engine-off cooling for the turbocharger with the coolant reservoir located directly above it. An additional air-to-oil cooler is probably overkill.

The stock temperature gauge monitors coolant temperature at the head, not the oil temperature. It's also a dampened gauge - meaning that it will not show rapid swings in temperature, even if something is going terribly wrong.

Just set up an eBay search reminder for "WRX three gauge pod" - they come up used from time to time. Spend extra for digital gauges so you are not running pressure lines into the cabin if at all possible.

+1 on digital gauges.  Defi makes some that were pricey back in the day when I did my setup (2010? lol).

Re: 3 Cluster Gauges

I did forget to mention, there was an OEM single-DIN 3-gauge-pack made by Defi, sold for the 05-09 Legacy GT models, branded with the STi logo
It was very expensive ($750 or so) including the sensors and wiring and stuff.
I actually bought one of the last ones before it was discontinued
Here is an example of the kit: https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showth … ?t=2883592
or https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread. … l?t=251836

it has boost, oil pressure, and oil temp. the boost was with an electronic pressure sensor, and the oil temp/pressure was with a sandwich plate at the oil filter
