Engine Compatiabilty for ‘05 92X Aero

Hello everyone,
Was curious if anyone could tell me the compatiabilty for what engines can go in a 2005 Aero. I read somewhere that you can put any year 2.0 L WRX engine in, but it will cause some minor computer issues that can be solved by flashing the ECU. Wasn’t sure how much truth there is to this? Any help would be appreciated. Also, any tips on looking at buying used engines would be appreciated too!
Thanks again!

Re: Engine Compatiabilty for ‘05 92X Aero

02-05 ej205 motor will do, there are some differences among them but can be overcome. An 05 wrx motor would be a straight drop in. If you find yourself shopping for a JDM motor you'll see AVCS as an option, USDM ej205 do not have avcs. You can run a jdm avcs motor without functional avcs with your original ECU. You can get AVCS functional using a JDM ECU and wiring your car for it. There are several choices available but each comes with its own set of things to consider.

2005 satin gray metalic aero, sold. 06 wrx, adios!
2005 black aero, rescue project, jdm STi ver 7 drivetrain.
2005 desert silver aero, work horse JDM EJ205 AVCS
2002 bugeye, sedan :-( new project

^basically what he said

shouldn't be too difficult to find a good 02-05 WRX longblock and swap that in
