Afternoon all,
I'm the recent owner of an '05 92X that I love dearly, but has been causing me some back problems. I'm used to driving pretty hard with seats with (frankly) better bolstering than the stock Aero seats have to offer. As such, I find myself in weird seating positions during long drives and get out of my car with pretty bad lower back pain after long drives. Tried a lumbar pillow, didn't help. Thinking about swapping in some new seats to see if it helps the problem.
What's the easiest swap here that retains use of my airbags so I can A) be safe and B) pass inspection? I've done a bit of searching around this forum and others (NASIOC) but was curious if other folks had experiences with this or something similar. I'd hate to get rid of this car because of that reason
Thanks!

I personally don't have any experience in this field, but I do know some guys will swap out with WRX and STI seats.

Appreciate the info - to my understanding those swaps don't require anything other than the seats, correct? Like, it will maintain airbags and heated seats, etc?

I know they're the most straightforward swap, but not sure how much is swapable.

IIRC, airbag connectors changed in.. 06?
The googles will tell you.

I've seen a thread here before from a big guy who could not tolerate the Saabaru seats and found comfort swapping to a set of seats off a bugeye. 02-05 WRX seats are plug and play on 05 Saabaru.

I swapped 04 STi seats into my 92x also mainly for comfort. ( the swap was literally unbolt old, bolt in new ) I lost the heated seat part. as far as the airbag goes, I'm pretty sure my 05 92 doesn't have seat airbags. there was no SRS light thrown or issues just bolting in the STi seats.
If you are looking for comfy and to retain the stock options you want 05-07 WRX STi Limited seats. The limited varients had heated leather with the bolstered STi seats wrapped in leather.

You had side air bags in your 9-2x and also in the replacement seats, it's the yellow plug underneath. Impreza seats before MY06 fit and use the same airbag type, MY06+ are two stage and require swapping or other hassles. MY04-05 WRX seats are comfy and not as bold as the STI seats, and a more durable fabric.
