On the road again....

Well, after spending the first 5 years of my saab92x.com life in Michigan, and the last 9 in Colorado, we are pulling up stakes again and moving to the NW suburbs of Atlanta, as I have a new position in Kennesaw, at the Novelis Global Research and Technology Center.  This will be pretty much invisible to you animals, but it is a big move for us, with lots of moving parts at the moment.

Any local intelligence will be welcome, although car-wise, I'm more interested in Mercedes-Benz than Saab/Subaru these days....  smile

Congrats!  Sounds like it will be tough to maneuver everything in a big move like that!

Congrats, Jim! One last 9-2x meetup before you go? Though I'm sure that isn't in any way a priority among all the logistical headaches.

Re: On the road again....

Congrats!

Although I spent many years in Colorado growing up, I moved to the deep south (Alabama) in 2014, loved every second of it. I moved back to CO in 2016, both times for work, but I miss my time down there. North of ATL area is really pretty. You are close to Chattanooga, Nashville (great night life), Birmingham (Barber Motorsports park is incredible), lots of very drive-able fun locations to explore. If you are into the Space industry at all, Huntsville is also a great 1-2 day trip.

Enjoy your time. My family and I sure did.

Re: On the road again....

Congrats on the life change and the big move.

I did something similar in 2014 - I ditched Vermont (where I had been since 1980) and moved south to the Charlotte, NC area. I actually live just over the border in SC. I love it down here - the climate takes about a year or so to get used to (i.e. drive with your windows down whenever possible the first summer to acclimate). I still have not gotten used to having to mow my lawn at 7 am in July since it's too hot to do it any other time.

Even though I didn't know what to expect - I'm so happy with the south. As KDUB mentions, it's a driver's paradise here. I just did a motorcycle tour this past weekend which included the Tail of the Dragon and about a quarter of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee have some mighty fine driving roads. Plus, there are legit ski areas in NC (which I didn't expect at all), and a full-sized resort in WV (Snowshoe). They are not Rockies-scale, but if you ever did alpine sports, they are a welcome addition to everything else the south offers.

Re: On the road again....

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

Shane:  No, won't have time for a meet up.  My wife and I still find Watercourse (site of the first 92x meetup that I attended....in 2010) one of our favorite Denver restaurants

Elliott:  Yes, Novelis is the worlds largest supplier of aluminum sheet (think F-150, Land Rover, Jaguar) and also worlds largest recycler of aluminum.  Not working in steel any more, which was one of the attractions to the position.

KDUB/kkg (friends whose names I don't know yet...)  Definitely going to be an upgrade from the car-guy standpoint.  Psyched for seeing the Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta this year, only an hour away from Kennesaw.  Really looking forward to exploring north, to the areas you guys mention.  When my wife and I visited back in February on one of my interview trips, we realized we missed two things 1) Green!  Colorado is green for one month a year, May, brown the rest of the time; 2) rolling hills.  At least in our area, it's either fairly flat or extreme terrain.  I was digging the rolling hills in the area, and can imagine the driving can be great.

We're pretty excited!

As I type this, I'm sitting in my hotel room in Huntsville right now. Headed back home to Denver in the morning.
