Re: Potato-Boring Fuel-Sipper

IIRC customer care program takes the powertrain warranty out to 10 years 100k miles.  Doesn't do a whole lot for you, but at least if you notice it now, you can get it addressed.  I called the day after the original warranty expired and was very happy to learn about the program.

According to the Ford customer service rep, "[the] Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) related to the transmission control module, CSP #14M02 has been extended to 10 years from the warranty start date or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. While researching, I see that your vehicle has an open recall for the side door latch, recall #16S30. It is recommended you contact your local Ford dealership to determine if they have the parts available to complete this repair."

There has been some shudder, but nothing like what was reported in 2013 and 2014 models. This car drives differently since it lacks a torque converter and instead uses a dual clutch. I've been reading all about it and posts about it on a Focus forum.

I like how it feels. I still might take it in just to see if I can get new transmission parts for the car since it's at 100K. Plus, apparently I've got a latch to fix.  roll

Now, just to take care of some minor maintenance and figure out what mods to do to make it more reliable (and maybe perform slightly better) big_smile  Trying to learn that lesson from the Saabaru early.

Re: Potato-Boring Fuel-Sipper

Damn you went with the crazy mileage Focus, nice choice.

Not sure if there are any mods worth doing besides like tint and basic comfort stuff.

Sooooo many Saabaru -> Mk3 Focus people.  Subaru done fucked up.

Re: Potato-Boring Fuel-Sipper

Yeah, I did a pre-purchase and got the thumbs up for the asking price, and then negotiated him down.

As for mods, probably, but I do know that I'll need to have new pads and rotors done here within the next 10k miles. Might be a good opportunity to go ahead and upgrade the rotors and anything else I might want to do on the brakes.

I'll get the car back from 100K service, so it should be driving real nice. Fresh spark plugs, fuel injectors cleaned, radiator flush. Also, I love not having to replace a timing belt!  cool cool

For real though, Subaru dropped the ball big time.

Impreza is too potato boring now, lags behind in creature comforts, and holds value more than it's worth IMO.  They never worked to make it quieter either, despite it having framed in windows.

Re: Potato-Boring Fuel-Sipper

Got to take the new whip up to Chattanooga this weekend. 36.7mpg  banana  banana  Also, it feels nice and direct. The lag from highway pulls is a bit strange and the bite is a second or two delayed after the engine has already revved high. Nothing bad--just different from other cars I've driven.

Pyromancy, if you want a potato (or bacon), PM me your address. If not, no worries! Thanks for all your help!

As in will I upgrade to those? Maybe. I've been told I might have to get larger wheels if I change the rotor size.. Trying to decide what I'd do.  Have you done anything to yours?

Re: Potato-Boring Fuel-Sipper

Just a less restrictive air filter for them awesome turbo noises.

But yeah I was talking about upgrading your brakes to ST brakes.  If you get post 3/2014 ST brakes you will need 17s.  You can get by with some 16s on the older size ST brakes.

Are the older ST brakes worth it? My understanding was that the brakes on the ST are that substantial of an upgrade to the car.

I'm also looking at an air filter/snorkel delete combo. Rather cheap, and supposedly it gives the mpg a slight bump. Sadly, no turbo noises to be had for me!
