Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

arrow-up Exactly.

Now, the problem arises of finding black ones somewhere or making my own 19x10s black to match the front wheels. I have had zero luck finding a pair anywhere. Anyone with a wheel connection is welcome to join in the search.

OEWheels, LLC is the manufacturer/primary distributor of the wheel, under the brand name "OE Racing". They are not making the black ones anymore and have no stock.
Lane's Car Products listed the wheel as available on their site until yesterday when they pulled that page following an availability inquiry by me. Can't get them anymore, only ever ordered them as needed from the distributor above.
Hubcap, Tire, & Wheel also listed the wheel as available on their site, but same story as above. Can't get them anymore, none in stock.

Unfortunately, the wheel does not seem to have a consistent name (i.e. 'Rota Grid'), so it's not easy to find. "Mustang 19x10 black machined" gets the most hits on Google.

Only the gray/gunmetal ones are available on eBay/Amazon.

Honestly, I want the factory-look black ones... refinishing/repainting two $120 wheels for $150 each doesn't make any sense to me.

Here is a picture of another car with those wheels:

arrow-up already done. But because these don't seem to have a real 'name', it's hard to get a search to return relevant results...

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

So a quick update...

A couple of months ago, I replaced the 3" rolled-edge pencil-tip exhausts with 4.25" slash cut tips. They fill out the exhaust cutout in the bumper perfectly and retain the nice burble of the 5.0 that was missing with the free-on-CL OEM mufflers that I ran for a couple of months. I have come to discover that the resonators that were welded onto the car in place of the factory mufflers were "Jones Turbo Tube" mufflers. In an odd turn of events, the tips that I had welded onto those were also made by Jones exhaust.  biggrin

I also pulled the trigger on some wheels today, but only because they were on sale/clearance for 25% off AND free shipping. I got a full set of the wheels mentioned above in gunmetal. If worse comes to worse, I can always get them refinished in black. The wheels came to $299 shipped, which was too good of a deal to pass up - as they are not only a better look (much more concavity) - but are 19x9 front and 19x10 rear vs the stock 8.5" wide wheels. The front wheels have 1.5" edge to center, and the rears have 2.5" of depth.

I'm not sold on how the gray wheels will look on a gray car - but it's already pretty monotone as it is... Maybe less dark wheels will look OK? Only an installation will tell. Black wheels are NLA new, and finding a used set is impossible. I have been on every Mustang forum out there seeking them without a single reply to half a dozen WTB threads. I even posted WTB ads in every CL in the southeast US with just one reply by a bored looney who sent me a link to OEWheels.  roll

I'll put on new TPMS sensors as well as a set of Continental Extreme Contact Sports sometime early next year when I can get my corporate discount again. I've used my allotment for 2017. I'll probably run a 275/40 19 in the back and retain the stock 245/45 19 in the fronts.

And the mod bug had bit - next I'll lower it with an adjustable panhard bar...  big_smile

It had *mufflers* in place of the factory *resonators*  confused

Any idea why someone would do that?

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

arrow-up Maybe I was unclear... lol

The original owner had the OEM mufflers taken off, the over axle piping cut off, and the Jones Turbo Tube 'mufflers' were welded where the OEM muffler used to be. They are not so much mufflers as they are resonator-shaped dual chamber straight-throughs. They are really made to have a 'muffler' where room is tight, like a hot-rod build, this application is kind of odd.

But they sound great, don't drone on the highway, and are about 20% of what the stock mufflers weigh. Axlebacks are something that 75% of GT owners have done to their car, so the market can support high prices for relatively little product. Check these out for $423 (!):
https://www.americanmuscle.com/slp-lm-a … -11gt.html
They are literally two pieces of piping with two bends each, hangers, and bolt-on tips. For over $400!!!

As far as WHY someone would do this, I would guess it's because they were cheap and refused to pay $300-$500 for a pair of axlebacks. I can't imagine that the setup cost any more than $250 installed, probably even less than that.

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

Wheels should arrive today!  banana

Fingers crossed that the gunmetal looks good on the car.

With some more research, I think I'm going to run the following size tires:
255/40/19 front (this is the OE size for cars with the Track Package)
285/35/19 rear

The Continental Extreme Contact Sport doesn't come in 245/45/19, so I had to change it up a bit. Since the tires will be a slightly smaller diameter than the ones that came on the car, it should be an effective drop of 10.5mm in the rear and 8.25mm in the front.

If I want to post pics, I'll need to find a better photo hosting service (I had been using Photo-Fuck-it unamused)... What's preferred now?

Oh, and FWIW, OEWheels is doing some clearance pricing on rep wheels with free shipping (only reason I pulled the trigger on these), check them out if you wanted a second set of wheels or wanted to change up the looks of your car. Great folks to deal with...

If I am at work, all mainstream media sharing sites are blocked. Making posts is kind of shitty when I try to link a picture I cannot see from a website I cannot access. Stupid IT.

Wheels arrived last night, and they are awesome.

So.
Much.
Concavity.

The fronts have much more depth than I thought they would, given they are only 0.5" wider than stock.

For now, they are squirreled away in the pantry until next year when I can buy tires...

Yeah, that works. They look good. You could use your current tires and stretch them like crazy. Is that still a "stance" trend?
The whole Photobucket thing has ruined the internet so hard. Try getting any useful photos/instructions etc from message boards with a bunch of broken links. They should just up their advertising by including a banner ad at the bottom of the picture like Imgur (I believe) does.

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

I've got the Google Photos app on my phone, so I guess I'll have to use that from now on. Sorry you have to click a link.  hmm I can't believe Photobucket is even still in business at this point - I haven't seen a worse business decision ever. Do you want to alienate your customers? Because that's how you get alienated customers!

I am NOT stretching tires. I don't think that there has been an auto-trend I've despised more. Plus, I'm trying to increase my contact patches - not reduce them.  facepalm

I was very much kidding about stretching the tires. I remember my old roommate stretched perfectly good tires on perfectly good wheels and put them on his perfectly good GTI that used to ride nice and drives on rails. I was so confused.

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

I scored a set of used Ford OEM TPMS sensors for $35 shipped, and I just put in my order for the tires today (first day back to work with my tire discount). I am going with Continental (of course) ExtremeContact Sports, in 255/40/19 in the front and 285/35/19 in the rear. Even with a ~50% discount, they were $575 shipped - I've never spent so much money on tires.

With any luck I'll have them on next week - I need to coordinate with the shop I had the tires delivered to to get both the new wheels and the TPMS sensors to them to meet the tires that are already en route. Sometime after they've mounted everything, I'll bring the car over to have them swapped on and the TPMS synced. I'll probably need a third trip to pick up the old wheels/tires with my wife's Sorento - with it's cargo space, the 9-2x never had this logistical nightmare to deal with...

I'm sure that the fender gap will be unacceptable to most, so once it's settled I'll probably seek out some Ford Performance 'K' springs for a very mild drop, which also will require an adjustable panhard bar to center the rear axle. I have a drainage curb at the end of my driveway and I scrape the rubber air deflector under the nose of the car at any speed over 1 mph.

Do you work for Continental? I was gonna buy some ExtremeContact DWS06 for my GTI (don't have the money for two sets of wheels right now, so all-seasons for me) but ended up going with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. The Michelins seemed to get better reviews.  I had Continentals on my 9-2x and my wife has Continentals on her RAV4, so I was a little weary to venture to a different brand.  Still have to mount mine though.

Yeah - I've been with Conti since 2014. I've heard through the grapevine that the DWS06 is a great tire, but I've never had them.
