Re: PERRIN PULLEY INSTALL

Im not sure what you meant by the jenny craig comment. Does it feel faster, or just rev faster? Local shop is offering them for like, $130 installed.

though I know its more of a hassle with the auto. Do you build boost faster?

Re: PERRIN PULLEY INSTALL

well I paid 110 for just the pulley , so i dont think its bad for 130 installed, it was really easy, just get a socket 22mm

there is a sale on AEM ones for 80 bucks ,With belts, you may want to check that out,...

Re: PERRIN PULLEY INSTALL

the car feels not that much faster, but it is a bit quicker ,, my main thing is MPG ,, we'll see ....

the only thing with the automatic install is that you have to put a screw driver thru it so it does not move while scrwining it in. no big deal

are you sure ?
The pulley is keyed with the drive shaft
If you pulled out the old pulley make sure you did not loose the key or stayed with the pulley

When you said stick a screwdrvr in to install i was worried

pls check

I believe the pulley only helps to reduce drivetrain loss.  After I installed mine, it definitely felt like the car gained a bit of hp, but that could just be placebo effect.  Now that I've had it on for a while, I can't really tell the difference.  This will in no way affect turbo spool time.

$130 installed sounds like a fair price.  I got mine for $100 shipped, and me and Alan l. installed it together.  It's easier with 2 people.

Re: PERRIN PULLEY INSTALL

I have the Cobb pulley in.  I can't say that I noticed much of an increase of anything, but the amount of engine braking definitely decreased.  In other words, I cruise along at 60, then I drop it into 4th and just let the engine slow me down, it now takes longer to reach 45 than it did before.

All you have to do is put the car in 5th gear and have someone sit on the brake pedal.  Well, for the manual, anyway.  Cheater bar doesn't hurt, either.

Re: PERRIN PULLEY INSTALL

Installing this on a manual is a piece of cake.  On an auto though...i heard its a major pita because we need to somehow lock the tranny from turning when loosening the bolt on the crank pulley.

Re: PERRIN PULLEY INSTALL

pulleys are like BOVs.....rice mods with no positive effect!
in my opinion, at least.

Obligatory sig with extensive power mod list for greater respect:
-JDM oil pan, JDM dipstick, STI oil pickup and baffle plate for ultimate oil flow, STI midpipe for uber power gains.
-WetOkole front seat covers for ass sweat stains
-Drawtite hitch (no wiring) for a bike and a trunkmonkey for shits and giggles

Re: PERRIN PULLEY INSTALL

I just don't do mods where there are possible negative effects that may f up the engine.

Plus I don't really understand how the engine is balanced, etc. I think this is one area where I will leave it to the engineers and stay stock.

Aba, sorry to rain on your parade. This mod only has negative effects on some cars, not all. So good luck and enjoy the revs.  up

Re: PERRIN PULLEY INSTALL

In LS1 land, UD pulley is proven good for quicker revs and a couple ponies.  It's on the must do list for bolt-ons.
I've never researched its effects on the EJ20.

Re: PERRIN PULLEY INSTALL

EJ20 does not have harmonic balancer, it is built into the fatter stock pulley. Do not mess with it!

Most of these problems are related to lightweight flywheels, or flywheels in conjunction with pulleys.  Search more, you'll see.

Re: PERRIN PULLEY INSTALL

Although the guy on wrxforums sounds knowledgeable, I tend to keep people who use "dampening" when they mean "damping" at arm's length.  Also, he more or less contradicts himself, at different times trying to say that the pulley is too small relative to the entire system to make much difference, and then making it sound very important in other places.
