Led Turn lights and brake lights

Hey everyone, so I've got some Led turn signal lights and brake/tail lights that I purchased from superbrightleds.com. I got my parking lights from there as well some interior lights and have been super pleased with the results. Unfortunately, like any led with an older car, I've got the dreaded hyperblink with my turn signals. I already have the resistors purchased, but I'm trying to figure out how to install them without having to take the front end off.  It was pretty difficult to get the turn signal bulbs out of the front end when I just pulled back the wheel well covers--fat fingers and limited space don't play well together.  Is there any way to open up a lot more space without removing the fender or headlight fixtures themselves. I'm assuming I probably need to solder the resistor in and then heat shrink some tubing around the exposed wire. So, as usual, halp?

Re: Led Turn lights and brake lights

By 'resistors', do you just mean the turn signal flasher? I believe it is this one for our cars:
https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinf … r/783/837/

I installed LED turn signal bulbs in the front and got the hyperblinking as a result as well. Installed that flasher and viola, all good. No soldering, heat shrink, exposed wire, any of that. IDK what you're trying to do? haha. It's just a simple unplug and replace job for the flasher replacement.

As far as replacing the turn signal bulbs, I replaced mine while the headlights were out of the car since I had them removed to do the reflector delete smile. Not sure if you can replace with everything still intact on the car, but you may be able to get away with just removing the battery on the driverside and removing the intake snorkel on the passenger side.

I...I...I...

I am so stupid  facepalm I bought these: https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinf … x/190/831/. Well, that's going to be a heck of a lot easier. Guess, I'll get on exchanging the resistors for those. I still can't believe I'm so stupid...

Re: Led Turn lights and brake lights

You pretty much have to remove the driver side headlamp to change the turn signal, not a lot of other ways around it unless you take off the fender, which is more work (you've got to take off the wheel well splash guard to get to the screws). If you don't want to remove the whole bumper, you can usually just take out the pop screws on the drivers side half of the bumper cover and get to what you need.

Re: Led Turn lights and brake lights

Alright, so I got that relay in and tried to install it over the weekend and found that it didn't fit. Perhaps, it was the wrong one? Anyone know what part number it should be?

Perhaps, I tried installing it wrong. Where exactly in our fuse box does this relay get installed? Anyone have pictures for a noob?

Re: Led Turn lights and brake lights

With some help from ikbrown, I found the Turn Signal relay and final got rid of my hyperblink. I also took the time to finally install my LED brake lights but noticed that they don't come on when I have my lights on. They do turn on when I depress my brake pedal, but night driving is going to be hazardous with them in if I can't make them turn on when I turn on my headlights. Anyone experienced this before?

arrow-up try flipping the bulb 180 deg in its socket. You may not be making contact.

Re: Led Turn lights and brake lights

What Scargo said, or try squeezing in the contact points that the light plugs in to so they make contact. I recall w/ my LED license plate lights I had to make the contact points a little tighter so that the light would illuminate since the LED was just a touch thinner than the standard bulb so it didnt always make contact.

Glad the hyperblink is taken care of

Re: Led Turn lights and brake lights

There's some sort of short going that's causing the problem. I didn't get to actually take the bulbs out last night and move the contact pins or try flipping them, but I did have enough time to check the fuse box for the tail lights and found the fuse was blown. Swapped in a new one and it blew immediately. I've now got a whole box of fuses. I'm ready. big_smile big_smile

Re: Led Turn lights and brake lights

arrow-up  LED bulb contacts could be causing the short (cheap overseas stuff).  Use a meter to verify there's a short in the car before jumping to conclusions. If no meter, put the OE type bulb in and see if there is still a short.

Re: Led Turn lights and brake lights

OE bulbs work fine, but the LED bulbs do not. I got them from superbrightleds.com and have loved all of their other stuff. Anyways, I can have either tail lights or brake lights. Flipping them results in blowing either the brake light fuse or tail light fuse respectively while allowing me to either be seen while traveling or seen when braking. Anyone else had this problem?

I might go for LED turn signals. I know to do the flasher, but where do I plug it in?

Everyone talks about how you need it, but I never see where to install it.

It's near the steering column on the driver's side under that lower dash panel. When you take that lower dash panel down and turn the turn signal on it's fairly straight forward what is making the noise.

Ah, that makes sense. Thank you.
