Re: My project Saabaru

Couple of Blouch turbos I installed required me to loosen the uppipe to install the turbo cold side inlet and outlet.  I thought that was strange, by the only way to do it was tighten the bottom of the uppipe to header last.

Re: My project Saabaru

Thanks for the advice man, thankfully my motor is not in the car, should be no problem to loosen those two bolts again, I just installed a Cobb up pipe before deciding to go for a turbo upgrade. I've been doing stuff twice more than once as I decide changes after already doing related stuff. Its the time to do it, even if doing it twice now, still easier while the car is apart.

Yes, this was my experience too actually. Did a Killer B oil pickup at the time so my headers were off already, certainly made things easier.

Re: My project Saabaru

Interesting. Why did you choose those over ID1000'S? No plans for e85?

Re: My project Saabaru

Correct, I will not be going for e85 but according to Deatschwerks their 850 injectors are e85 capable.

Blouch 18GXT-R installed.

Re: My project Saabaru

Last weekend as a free man before my family returns home after almost 2 months in Japan visiting family. Made a good push yesterday and today, lunch break now but will resume shortly. Here is what I've been able to accomplish.

The cleaning never seems to end, still have to do more cleaning. My car is truly a rescue project. Still a long way to go.

Re: My project Saabaru

Done for today, long day spending quality time with the car. Did some more cleaning under the hood, installed an STi air conditioning hose to prevent the intercooler from putting a hole thru the aluminium part of hose. I have to wire the avcs and install the group n engine mounts at some point before the motor goes in. Took the steering column trim off and mounted a single pod for an aem failsafe gauge. I like the idea of having just one gauge, boost and air/fuel all in one. I also started to take the entire rear end off, decided to replace the rear diff bushings and discover a tear on an axle boot. I had inspected the boots before installing the axles and they seem fine, mother f$%#*}.
Also installed the hood scoop and diverter, I'd like to eventually get a grimspeed, that'll be later.

Re: My project Saabaru

Interested in how you plan to do the heater hoses as the pipe angle is different.

All you need is heater hoses from an 2002 wrx. It was one of the things that I had forgotten about as well when I did my swap.

Looks great, dude! Thanks for sharing the process, can't wait to see it done! driving

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I wasn't aware of that difference yet. It was not an issue when I swapped a ver 8 on to my bugeye wagon.
Your conversation and contribution is greatly appreciated.

Re: My project Saabaru

Avcs wiring complete  checkmark
I purchased an IAP wire set despite having the entire wire harness from the donor vehicle.
Thank you Stephen at IA Performance, your wire system comes with easy to follow instructions. It made the task of avcs wiring rather simple.

JDM ECU instelled
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i193/D-Rodman/image_zpsmotewtjm.jpeg~original

Motor is in.
Slowly plumbing and connecting.
The upper heater hose (from fire wall to motor) requires changing to 02 wrx style. The lower heater hose did not require changing with the ver 7 motor.
Installing new OEM battery wires and terminals, the existing wires are a mess.
Strongly considering keeping the JDM AC compressor, will require wire modification.
I like the idea of the JDM compressor been less draining on the motor.

Re: My project Saabaru

Not much time to dedicate to the rescue mission but here is the latest update.
A present to itself from its previous existence.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i193/D-Rodman/image_zpspaqrnaos.jpeg~original
New battery wire harness
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i193/D-Rodman/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsfimpzpk0.jpeg~original
Fuel lines and driver side wires all done
Cobb intake and air box, Cobb ebc installed, wire connections all done, plumbing on the way.
The upper heater core hose did require replacing, 02 WRX application as mentioned previously by the very helpful contributor.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i193/D-Rodman/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsxwisgbai.jpeg~original
Ver 8 AC compressor chosen for its compact nature and lower load on engine, extra points for having the correct wire connector.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i193/D-Rodman/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsv797bpgj.jpeg~original
Not decided on what to do about the power steering pump.
The pump on the ver 7 motor has a slightly different connection location but might work, don't know if it needs rebuild.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i193/D-Rodman/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsotugnt8t.jpeg~original
The power steering pump that came on rescue needs rebuild.

Re: My project Saabaru

Was able to put a few hours into rescue on Sunday. One of the rear cv axle boots developed a tear and I wanted to pull the rear differential out again in order to install a set of stiffer bushings.
