Re: "Tell 'ya what I'm gonna do ...." SMALL CAR < $16,000

It was probably too big...

Today, there exist econoboxes aplenty with base prices in the $15,000 region, including the Chevy Cobalt, Ford Focus, and Honda Civic. Properly equipped, though, those models can easily empty wallets to the tune of 18 grand. And the truth is, we were more curious about the extra-petite newcomers — the Dodge Caliber, the Honda Fit, the Nissan Versa, and the Toyota Yaris. We asked for a new Aveo sedan, but Chevy says it won’t be ready for months. Then we fleshed out our school of guppies with more familiar fish — the Suzuki Reno, the Hyundai Accent, and the Kia Rio.

It's only about the same price if you compare a Fit Sport to a civic DX...  in that case the Fit has more features.

Fit Sport > Civic DX  driving

The Civic DX doesn't even have AC  eek  Need to pony up for a higher trim level for that.

16,700 for Civic Sedan LX and 15,100 for Fit Sport.  I don't think that is much of a difference.  Close enough that I would decide that the extra mileage saved on the Civic would be worth it in the long run.  But the Fit is a lot more versitle inside.   driving

Re: "Tell 'ya what I'm gonna do ...." SMALL CAR < $16,000

That is kinda weird the Fit has a lower fuel economy than the Civic, despite having a smaller engine and weighing less.  Is it the aerodynamics?  The Fit has better city numbers but worse highway numbers so that'd fit with that theory.   Anyway, I think the MPG would probably even out for most people who do mixed city/highway driving.

could also be gearing to make that smaller engine work within Americans comfort zone.

Hyundai has made great strides in reliability...  near the top of the pack now.   I don't know how much of that has made it over to the Kia part of the company though.  Either way, they have a 5/60 bumper to bumper and 10/100 powertrain warranty.

They also have 3/36 paint warranty.  Wish our cars did... smile

The Fit is not go.  Get a Mazda3.  Friend of mine has one it has very nice interior/exterior for the price and I really enjoyed the ride.  It handles sporty and even has a lil' kick.  It looks real nice in the dark blue color option.  Mazda3 para la gana.

Re: "Tell 'ya what I'm gonna do ...." SMALL CAR < $16,000

Honda Fit or a used Mazda3 hatch would be my vote.  Both are a blast to drive.  Just rented a 3 hatch and it handles great.  Testdrove a Fit and was very impressed.  Yaris can't match either in handling, fun, or room.

MAZDA 3 FOR THE WIN

my girlfriend had same dilemma, i made her drive the mazda3 because of the good reviews and its a GREAT car... we have no complaints, its fun and great to drive. definately get the 2.3 liter engine, but dont let the dealer try to load you up with packages and options.

I like the Fit's paddle shifters, still though for price, gas versatility, and reliability I say Yaris is a good choice.

There will be a hybrid model which is currently in the works, so by gas versatility I meant you have the option to go straight non-diesel or choose hybrid. Plus to help to optimize fuel-efficiency in the Yaris is the electric power steering setup that takes away the engine-driven hydraulic pump of traditional power steering systems, by this weight is loss which helps the Yaris be an even more efficient gas saving vehicle.

'friad not.  Our cars only run on Tokyo Drift Rice.  Our cars are too high performance for Japan Happy Fun Time Love Vibes or JHFTLV's for short.
