The other ST thread, Fiesta STs

They deserve their own thread.  Really awesome little car, I almost got one instead of the FoST.  Here is a stock block one running flat 12s

Should have folded the mirrors in, would have broken into the 11's   big_smile

I wonder what the power difference is between 93 and 110 octane fuel?

Re: The other ST thread, Fiesta STs

For me the Fiesta ST is an amazing little car.  For me though, it wouldn't cut it for several reasons.

It is too small.  Sure, it is nice that it is a hatch, but good luck getting all the stuff you need in there with a family.  I can barely make my Saabaru work and while I would have to look up the exact numbers, the back seat is likely smaller?  Behind the seat is way too small.

It looks really cheap inside and out.  If you are 20 years old, OK.... but if you are 35+ you kind of look like a tool driving one.  It looks like a toy (which I guess it kind of is).  It is just too small/cheap looking.  The inside is pretty bad.  I mean, it is functional and has Ok materials, but no doubt it is a really cheap car.  To people that are not into cars, you have woulud have to explain to them why it is special.  Most people will see a little cheap looking car.

It is too busy of a ride on the highway/not refined enough.  I think I would want to shoot myself during my commute.  If I had a commute that was shorter with some twisties, I would feel different, but it really doesn't have a lot going for it on the highway.  Even its mpg isn't all that great, many large cars do as well if not better.

Sure, the handling is amazing for what it is, it is crazy fun to drive, it is pretty good on gas..... but I would never consider it.  The Focus is better in most areas except fun to drive, and that seems like a small price to pay for a nice car with a lot more space that really isn't that much more expensive.   hmm

I know I love to talk all kind of sh*t on the Focus ST, but if it had that 2.3 from the Mustang in it, it would probably be my next car.

So you are getting an RS?

Also, I love your paragraph on how you don't like small cars.  If I were to go that small I'd prolly have the Abarth, those things sound fucking nasty stock.  cool

Re: The other ST thread, Fiesta STs

Yeah, that back seat is even smaller than the Saabaru (by about 2 inches).  If my Saabaru had about 1/2 an inch less space in the back seat, I could not fit a infant car seat in it which is a total deal breaker for me and I would think many others.

If you are not having kids anytime soon, live in the city, and want a fun little car, I makes a lot of sense though.

Do you realize your complaints apply to every car in that category?

It is like coming into a thread about the new Vette and being like "Well it doesn't have a ton of trunk space, I couldn't fit my child seat in it, but if you want a fun car that is just a toy it makes a lot of sense."

Way too expensive.  I was referring to Ford putting the 310 hp engine from the Mustang in the ST like they should.

I have been researching cars hard over the past several months (just in case I need to pull the trigger) and I was really considering the Golf Sportwagen, but it really needs the 2.0 from the GTI.  The 1.8 is a good engine, but it just isn't enough when the GTI is so much more powerful.  Also, the base on can only be had with 15 inch rims (I don't want a loaded one with the big sun roof and such) and having to buy a nice set of rims/tires shrinks the incentive for getting the sportwagen.  The handling would have been fair.... but again, the GTI is so much better (and FOST too for sure).  I could deal with the looks, but I feel like it loses out on the GTI in too many other areas.

I put the baby seat in my Saabaru (it fits in the middle but not on the sides) and my son will have just enough room next to it for now (he is 9).  Our back seats are pretty tight!

As for the loss of extra space, I think that will mostly be a big deal when traveling, so I am just going to get a hitch and a cargo carrier.... should work for the 1% of the time when I need more room so that the 99% of the time I can have a fun car.

That "category" is a blurry line.  I would argue that a Hyundai Accent is in the categroy of a FiSTmore than a Vett.  The Focus ST just makes so much more sense in so many ways.

I know.

Also, the FoST would be a complete waste with the motor from the Mustang.  The 2.0 has plenty of power/torque for a FWD car.  If the FoST came with options for both, I'd have the 2.0.

That is because you are sick in the head.   biggrin

More power (even if you can't use it in 1st gear), about the same MPG.... seems win win to me.

Maybe with a proper LSD.  The way the car currently is the 2.3 would not be fun.

Maybe. I read that a comprehensive upgrade of all three motor mounts greatly decreases the torque steer.

Anyway. This thread is about the FiST. I can't imagine handling a 12 second Focus ST. I wonder what kind of suspension and tire that FiST is rocking.

Do you spit or swallow when you finish sucking off the GTI?

You read way to many magazines.  In the real world, I've never seen it.  High 13's is the norm.  I've seen stage 2-3 GTi's run in the 12's but not with a simple tune.

Anyways, back on topic, I really like the FiST.  It lacks power, but is a lot of fun on the twisties.  If it wasn't for lack of back seat, trunk space and looking like a tool I would probably own one.  I liked it a lot more than the FoST.

Friend's mom got a Golf Sportwagen 2 days ago, it's super nice. It is definitely much slower than the 2015 GTI, though. She got the nice trim with sunroof and wheels, it looks really good. Overall seems like it'll be a great car. But yeah, it has nothing on a GTI
